PSA: iOS 8.2 and Android 5.1 today

Platypus

Lifer
Apple released 8.2 today and Android 5.1 source is hitting AOSP now. They've posted some factory images for a handful of devices including hammerhead (nexus 5), grouper (nexus 7 2012) and manta (nexus 10).

Somewhat amusing they haven't pushed to shamu (nexus 6) or flounder (nexus 9) yet. Google is their own worst enemy sometimes.

Fixed in iOS 8.2: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204423

Should be fun to watch the Apple forums light up with people having issues. If it seems decent I may finally upgrade from 7.x

Shrug. Maybe I'm the only one but I don't have major issues with iOS releases. I think some of those issues may be overblown on the forums and a lot are PEBKAC issues.

Have they fixed the messaging crash in 8.2 yet? That's the most annoying thing about my phone right now?

I was running iOS 8.2 beta 5 on my 6 Plus and still had issues with the messaging app, it was ridiculous. Although it could be fixed in the non-beta release.

Just waiting for 5.1 to hit my Nexus 5 😉

Wouldn't this be fixed in something like a CM11 nightly?

Yes, we patch all these things immediately, but not everyone here runs CM and many devices are abandoned in terms of updates if you stick with stock firmware so just more of a PSA there.

If I trip Knox on my Note 3, will it mess with Exchange?

What carrier? In general, no, it will not. I assume by tripping knox you flashed unsigned firmware to boot or recovery.. in this case, no it will not impact userland at all. If you did something else lmk.

send that to VZW see if it will get them to speed up allowing 5.x on phones on their network

shit im on 4.4.2

Verizon assuredly knows and doesn't care enough to do anything about it. They are part of the inner circle that gets the security updates before they're public, they've known for months.

Yes, lots updates past two days. Apple and Android Monday. Microsoft has their update Tuesdays today and that was huge 1.2 GB for me. About half of which were Office.

Just got 5.1 installed on Nexus 5. I love the 'new' restore feature on 1st login. Sync was always there, but you had to initiate it on your own. It also lists all the apps you previously had installed and will give you checkboxes on which to install. Pretty slick.

I did a manual Helium backup prior. I'd be impressed if the sync restores my calls and SMS history.

WARNING to those doing a manual install. The flash-all script errored out on me. It could be because I used a different adb tool. It complained about missing sig files for 3 images. Luckily you can still skip that check and manually install the remaining images.

Oh I am shaking in my boots.

Not really. I can near guarantee this would have no effect on me

Considering any application you install has the power to do this, I wouldn't be making guarantees personally... but good luck with that.

The applications I install however are restricted to the ones from reputable sources. Google and the like of such or my own apps.

If Google wanted anything on my phone or to know anything about me they certainly wouldn't need to use this possible exploit.
