It looks like they tried to remake Chrome :( I also hate the home button being on the extreme right side,

I moved it to the extreme left side, but I still don't like it there. So I just turned on Favorites Bar and put a link to my home page in the middle of it.

Been playing around with it today, its blazing fast. For some reason Chrome is slow to load on my system.

Was using a beta last summer and it was kinda klunky, seems like they really polished it up.

I take it that it is using hardware acceleration on your computer?

Ive been a proud, flag waving, loyal IE user since Windows 95. But so far IE9 turns me off. :(

I'm assuming so, I've got a fairly new PC, with a beefy GPU

To check go to Tools-Internet Options-Advanced. If the Use Software Rendering is checked than you may need a driver update for GPU rendering. If its unchecked you are using GPU rendering.
Its apparently not just the hardware you have, but your drivers that can affect this.

why would they even make that default? It's so dumb

They said in their research the vast majority of people don't use enough tabs to fill that space, and they wanted to maximize the amount of space on the screen for content.

Unlike most folks here, I'm a recent convert to Firefox. The ONLY reason I made the switch was for the adblocker software. If Microsoft had such an option, I'd still be using IE instead of FF.

I would have bet it was unchecked based on simply the ridonculous speed it loads the craptastic ads here on AT, which used to make IE8 sweat.

thanks for showing me how to check, it is indeed GPU enabled.

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed was the speed with which ATOT loaded.

I'd feel guilty using adblocker. Being a web publisher myself, and being a member of several communities of publishers, I know how many sites out there barely make a living on ad support alone. If more people used adblocker, all the little guys would die off.

I'd hate to see the internet turn into nothing but content provided by the giants like Google, MSN, Apple, Yahoo, and Amazon

Did MS ever get around to fixing that problem where the back button never works?

Suppose you are typing out a long post on the forum. You hit reply and you get an error saying the forum is down for maintenance (or connection error or something). FF, Chrome, and Opera will allow you to hit the back button and just copy your post into something else like a text document and save it for later. Hitting the back button in IE goes back to a blank text box. It forgot the entire post. It has been like that for years. That was why I originally stopped using IE.

I would turn it off if companies would stop making annoying ads. Static images are fine. Animated images are not ok because they draw my attention away from the article. Flash is even worse because then it's drawing attention, lags the shit out of the browser, consumes way too much bandwidth, and it's potentially a security problem.
