try that firmware upgrade trick (read the list for set top boxes that aren't covered by this though)...

my update took about 30 minutes...

I just looked it up and we have a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD box. I'm willing to try anything but I don't see a guide for other set top boxes.
 
Dang, I hate those Motorola remote delays. Have been living with them for a year or more.
Will try the second one when I get home, thanks!
