My DVR was getting pretty sluggish...it would literally take 30 seconds for the STB to respond to the remote...

I had a bunch of stuff on there I haven't watched yet so I have been delaying bringing it back to Time Warner to swap it out...

I found this link:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Resets

I did the steps to upgrade the firmware and voila, my DVR is back to normal and I didn't lose anything...

not sure if this belongs in the A/V forum or not...MODS, please move if you think this belongs there...

Does everyone elses Moto DVR take forever to bring up the delete prompt after watching a recording that has ended?

It used to come up right away but then one day started taking a good 30 plus seconds to bring up the prompt. I got the boxed swapped out even with a different model Moto DVR and same shit. Pisses me off.

TiVO > ur crappy "dvr" /thread

do you feel better about yourself now??

I will never understand for the life of me why someone would come troll in thread where someone was just trying to offer some helpful advice and then someone else shits inside it for no reason other than the fact that they are probably a total douche bag in real life.

Ok OK, I'll explain. I'm really not a douchebag IRL. I'm usually quite a helpful person.

See I noticed that you are trying to "help" users who are experiencing a "problem" with a "DVR". Now since TiVO doesn't have that problem I am ALSO helping with the problem by increasing awareness of the superior product, which doesn't have that problem.

It just so happened to be your thread. No offense to you personally, and I apologize for taking a dump in the middle of it with my internet "wit".

Sorry again, I feel quite strongly about users being duped into using a non-TiVO DVR.

Just blame the Viagra for your being such a huge dick.

I have 2 Moto DVRs and love them. I have used Tivo in the past and the only things missing are the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons. I also talk to people every day that have switched from Tivo to a Moto DVR and very, very rarely do I hear any complaints. Now Moxi users are addicts...but that's a whole different story.

To add some helpfulness to this thread:
If your DVR records all episodes of a show even though you selected "only new", unplug it for a few minutes to let it reset. Its actually not a bad idea to hard reset it like this every once in a while.

If you want to be witty, they invited these things called emoticons that let others know to take your post as tongue in cheek...you should look into it...

Who wants to pay a separate subscription just to use a DVR? Tivo can suck it.

Edit:
Oh and bobdole is a dick.

Agreed on the dick part. You can stop saying it.

I happily pay the sub. It's money well spent. While admittedly I haven't used the affected Motorola DVR in question - I have used a comcast, Uverse, DirecTV and cox DVR. All pale in comparison to the grandeur of TiVO. None have the simplicity, quickness, intuitiveness, or any other salesy garbage I can come up with.

Don't all of those come with an extra charge along with the cable/sat bill?

Now standalone ones, like MCE and Sage are not in the same category.

To get the delete/dont delete dialogue to come up hit exit after you've finished watching your recording.

Will definitely take a look at this later tonight. My DVR is slow at doing everything when you are viewing an HD channel.

My Time Warner box is sluggish as hell. The weird thing is that we had an older model that worked relatively well, but then it died and they gave us a new cable box (looked exactly the same but it had a cable card in it) that is just horrible.
