Moving To Canada Won't Be Easy For Anti-Obama Crowd

Many Americans angry about Barack Obama's election victory took to Twitter Wednesday to proclaim they're moving to Canada.

Canada, however, may not be too eager to let them in, judging from their apparent lack of knowledge about their northern neighbour's socialized medicine scheme, legal gay marriage and small military. Those disaffected Americans may also have a tough time navigating the bureaucratic maze that stands between them and citizenship.

The first step to Canadian citizenship is getting a permanent resident card, the Canadian equivalent of the American green card. There are many programs that lead to permanent residency, but you will either need desirable skills, a plan and the money to start a business, or family already in Canada. An Obama presidency probably won't make for a good refugee claim, the other path to gaining residency.

Some applicants for residency will also have to undergo a medial exam. Canada has free public health care and avoids letting in anyone with an ailment that might put undue strain on the system.

After getting residency, you must live in Canada for at least three years in the four years before you apply for citizenship. You will also need to know one of the two official languages, English or French, and pass a citizenship test on Canada's "government, history, symbols and geography," according to the country's Citizenship and Immigration department.

After learning the facts necessary to pass this test, if you still think Canada is the right destination to escape Obama's communist junta then you may want to see a doctor regarding your dysfunctional sense of irony.

And even if you think you've checked off all the boxes, you may find "Canada won't want you," Henry Chang, an immigration lawyer at Blaney McMurtry in Toronto, told Forbes. Getting residency "was always harder than many people thought," Chang said.

We need to sneak in, then fly Old Glory on top of Canada flag, and then match on the street and demand rights and privileges as Canadians, eh?

And if they won't let us in they are a much of racists :sneaky:

and xenophobic, and <fill in the blank> name calling. :D

I thought French is only required in Quebec?
it is , but if you want a government job, you need to be bi-lingual in French and English.

Are there really notable conservatives that mentioned moving to Canada if Obama won again? It makes no sense to me. What advantages does Canada have for the average hardcore conservative? Shouldn't they want to move to Taiwan or Singapore or something instead? I have one family member who lived in Taiwan for ~15 years because of the $$$$$$/job opportunities, and even that wasn't explicitly for any political reason here. Unless someone provides info indicating otherwise, this is false equivalence by lefties that hate themselves and feel a need to distance themselves from a few silly Hollywood celebrities.

The reason its so delicious that conservatives say they will move to Canada is that Canada practices the exact things that they say they want to leave America for. They have strong universal health care, gay marriage, small military. Its just so ironic to say you are leaving America to protest policies you disagree with to move to country that not only practices those policies but does so to a far greater extent.

Also refuse to learn French.
Learning French is how we know you're an illegal immigrant who tries too hard. The people born in Canada don't give a shit about the French language or Quebec.

it is , but if you want a government job, you need to be bi-sexual
Fixed. Having a dick in your mouth will go a lot farther than French words coming out of your mouth.

Great plan, right wingers all move to Taiwan, China is like....."we excuse some debt..ok?"
Dems are like hmm...it's only an island huh?

Taiwan gets it ass rolled over, Comchi has its final victory for all of China and Mao is lionized with the people for decades and the once failing legitimacy of the Maoist/Stalinist Comchi regime is restored.

Our righties imo would like the no regulations, no worker rights, low wages of China big business I bet, they just weren't sold on the brand.

I am sure Glenn Beck, Limbaugh and Foxnews would catch on to speaking Mandarin and kissing the elites ass in a heartbeat, it's what they do best.

Liberals will have "Free Dumbfukistan" bumper stickers, don't worry righties.

The dual irony of articles like this:

It correctly points out that conservatives would be fleeing the US to a place more liberal than the one they are fleeing; and
It alludes to the fact that when liberals decry conservatives' immigration stance they completely ignore the fact most "civilized" countries have immigration policies that are far more xenophobic than ours.

Yup. I checked Canada and Australia and both of those countries REQUIRED you score high enough on the immigration test before you can get in. And so far, not one can provide the name of one developed country, just one country, that will let any ILLEGALS to come in.

They don't do the "sob" stories, anchor babies, and other excuses for the ILLEGALS as we are doing now in the US.

I'm guessing you don't fully understand the meaning of the word "illegals"

And you do? Did your hero, BO, sign some paperwork to let the ILLEGAL kids to stay? I guess he did not fully understand the meaning of ILLEGALS, eh? :D

I don't remember any developed countries do such as thing. Care to comment on the bold/underline part from sacto's post that I quoted above?

It's really obvious in BC. Hell, first time I heard a comercial for Mazda, they pronounced it Maaaaaazda. I happened to mention it to a Canadian and he said they go out of their way to use the short version of the vowels to flip off the French.

Your friend is a flippant twit and you are an ignorant sucker to take his linguistic fantasy at its reality distorted value.

Because stupid people. Some of my hippy friends on facebook were seriously protesting some gas pipeline on Indian land . You would think a gas pipeline is the most evil thing in the world, but this is what a gas pipeline looks like:
03_armenia.jpg

OH MAH GAWD! It's so ugly! It will kill all of the gooses and beavers and fishes and trees!!1
You want to build a giant wind mill farm that is a hundred thousand times larger than the gas pipeline? Well that's no problem. I'm sure that will have no impact on the wildlife in that area. Thank god it's a not a fucking pipe. Pipes kill people and nature.

STALKER is full of pipelines like those, with ammo and goodies perched inconspicuously on random support edges. Do you want Canada to end up like Pripyat?

It would be easier to move to Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Montana, or Idaho.
