Someone did an analysis and found that something like 280 additional votes for Kerry (or maybe it was Gore) in the right states would have changed the election results.

I think your number is off, but even if that were the case, what, you could have made it 279 (or 281), instead? Still doesn't affect anything. Economically, voting is irrational. The only benefit from voting is if it makes you feel good. I've voted in most of the elections since I turned 18 (not just presidential elections), but I don't delude myself into thinking that it really matters.

If you're taking a hard-line stance of voting only for Muslims, you should move to Minneapolis. The representative for Minnesota's 5th district, Keith Ellison, is the first Muslim house member.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to vote in any other elections, unless perhaps there is a state representative or state senator who is also a Muslim.
Using this argument, you could claim that any government that relies on taxation is socialist. Would you support abolishing all taxes along with all entitlement programs? If so, that's fine, but you shouldn't be voting Republican, you should be voting Libertarian.
It sounds like you're not opposed to taxes, though, you're just opposed to using taxes for things you don't personally like. In that case, I'd like to ask for a refund for all of my tax dollars that went to pay for the war in Iraq, which I've been opposed to from the beginning.
You can't pick where your tax dollars go. You can choose to vote for someone you think will put them to better use than the other guy, but ultimately there are going to be a lot of people paying for things that they don't necessarily want or benefit from.

I say we get rid of this electoral college shit and make voting more open and honest as well as single issues.
Online banking is a proven secure method, yet it's required to go 'somewhere' to vote.
I strongly doubt anyone would attempt to buy votes in bulk...it's simply not worth it and it could be easily traced. There is nothing stopping someone from contacting various voters anyway and paying them to go down and vote a certain way.
IMHO the main reason we don't have this is because those in politics have learned people will usually vote in line with a spiel they are given or simply not vote. They know if they do their dog and pony show at x number of schools, retirement homes, etc chances are mostly like minded people will come out and then go and vote.
They don't want the black sheep vote.
But this is all more P&N than anything and I don't really get into politics as with the current system one is more or less lucky to get what they need into office or law.
