Here's what I do year after year:
Place a large cheap plastic bowl with a few pieces of crappy 2 year old candy in it with a sign that says "please take one"..... Nobody rings, nobody takes the candy cause it's crappy, and if they do it's obvious to anyone who follows that they were shafted because they were to late. Problem solved.
