I was browsing around exrx and saw they had a gym etiquette section. Text

This made me lol, in the "locker room" section at the end...

Be respectful of other people's belonging and personal space
* naked persons always have the right away

I guess I always abide by this, but didn't expect it to me in a gym etiquette list. In any case it covers a good deal of info for those of you that don't want to make asses out of yourself at the gym.

Interesting read. Although my current gym is empty most of the time :) Especially on barbell exercises. They're busy working their triceps, biceps, abs, and use the smith machine   :p

It was more like etiquette for super crowded after work gyms.

Most o fit was common sense though, but then again most people don't use common sense.

Yeah, the waiting in line stuff is a little over the top, but leaving water bottles, cell phones, etc. on benches you are not using and not re-racking plates happens at most gyms.

I have never seen the squat racks used at my gym. The most popular equipment by far are the elipticals, treadmills and bikes.... because everyone knows you can't run or bike outside

MY gym separated all cardio equipment from small weight room into couple big rooms. You got to pay extra for membership to "Fitness Center" where the cardio equipment is.

So the weight room is often nice and empty, there are only 3 (really basic) bikes and one "stair climber" there.

Like you are one to talk. How long have you've been lifting, a month or two? How about you wait until you get some significant results before you become one of those bores that constantly critics others about their routines:disgust:

You know I'm not serious :)
It is just a popular thing to say, and it makes me feel good.

A couple I'd like to add:

* Use equipment only for it's intended purpose. Or at least use the best equipment for the job. This is directed to folks at my gym that insist on using the cage for barbell curls.
* If you're doing supersets with 2 or more (!) benches/machines, don't get pissed if somebody sits down at the machine between your sets.

I just get peeved when people leave weights all over the place, or random ass weird weights on the bar, or 4 different sizes of weight on each pole of the weight stand.

The best rule i ever saw posted on a gym wall was "Grunting & loud noises are disturbing and offensive to others"

I really hate people that scream and slam their weights around. No matter what the situation, it's not acceptable, and it certainly doesn't make you look impressive.

Screaming is unacceptable, but grunting is alright, especially if the person is obviously not doing it for attention and is on a heavy set of something like squats or deadlift. The only way people should be dropping weights around is on a heavy set of deadlifts. Sometimes, you can't help but drop it if your body may be at risk to injury.

-You can't 'save' a piece of equipment.. If you are not using, tough luck.
-If your burps smell worse than a fart, time to change the type of supplement.
-bags in workout areas are against the rules in most gyms, so if you bother bring one in, at least keep it out of the way.
-Hanging out in the locker room naked for about an hour isn't normal.

The screamers and totally random weight placement get me the most.

I don't like having to spend 5 minutes reorganizing plates just so I can get to what I want when there are CLEARLY marked holders for each plate. I mean is it that damn hard to put things back properly after you're done? Nearly tripping over dumbbells that have been left scattered across the floor sucks too.

I wish my gym would enforce their no cellphones rule. I won't lift after work anymore because of all the fools standing around (not lifting, not exercising) or sitting on a bench while yapping. Early morning or the lunch hour is it now.

Agreed. The other thing that grinds my gears are when people refuse to bring their towels to the front. It's a fucking towel. You've just been lifting weights. Weights > towel. CARRY YOUR TOWEL BACK INSTEAD OF LEAVING IT IN THE GODDAMN LOCKER ROOM.

People are fucking idiots. It takes two seconds to clean up after yourself.

If the gym has an O-lifting platform, I would think dropping cleans and snatches would be acceptable as well. Unfortunately far too few gyms actually do have those...

Right. I was assuming a completely normal and boring gym :p
