depends on the lens, really. i have two macro lenses. one is more of a zoom lens but has a macro option. you'd probably have to stand a good 6 feet away to get any shots.

but my macro lens requires me to be much closer (1foot or less). still, even with such a lens, you can take good pictures -- probably not of a bee, though.
