won't let me quote your post kaido, got the same error you got..

anyway, i wanted to say if you're interested in the storm launcher, you might want to check out that thiong from buyflyingboat.com for only $80 more.

it looks 10x better than the storm launcher. you can do flips and rolls with it, fly straight up and seems to be much stronger and faster than the storm launcher.

if i wasn't in the middle of purchasing 2 guns i would probably pick up oneof those things.

Yeah, I actually had that link in the post that's all messed up - it cut off like half of the entire post when I went to edit it. All of the product photos are messed up or missing, plus all the links I had in there for all of the competitor's stuff and larger/older designs :|

The nice thing about the Storm Launcher is that it's 1/2 the price of the flying boat model. If you are willing/able to spend $200 on the flying boat, I'd definately say get that instead because it looks much more powerful than the Storm Launcher in pretty much every way - speed, control, etc.. It has a much better control system and says it can run for 30 minutes. Additionally, it uses a brushless motor, so it's more poweful, plus includes tools and spare propellers. The thing is that $70 from Wal-Mart is a lot easier to swallow than $229 shipped for the muscle version. Which would you rather entrust in the hands of a 6-year-old? 😉

well i'd be getting it for myself, not a 6 year old 😉

Well order one already and let us know how it goes 😀

wanna send me the money? i already said that if i wasn't picking up 2 guns in the next few days that i'd buy one.

So just buy one gun and the flying boat thing. Can we say "target practice"? Pull! 😀

well, considering i want the gun more, no. also, there's no way in hell i would use a $200 rc toy as a target.

My friend got one and says it doesn't fly as well as the biplane. I've seen some videos of it and it's so-so. I'd say get the biplane. You can order it online if they don't have it locally.

I already have the biplane - just considering getting another so I don't have to share with the kids 😀

Oh, biplane then. Apparently the jet's nose breaks off in crashes pretty easily, while it doesn't really hurt the biplane 🙂

I got one.

It actually seems much more robust than the bi-plane IMO. However, it doesn't handle anywhere near as well. The turning radius is at least double that of the bi-plane. You need either a large back yard or a small park to really enjoy it properly.

On the plus side, it flies considerably faster, it glides much better, and it can gain altitude much more quickly (too quickly sometimes.)

After seeing my brother's bi-plane though (I got the jet first as that was all they had) I now wish I could've snagged the bi-plane.

I got mine last night. I may be having an issue with the range though. It seems as if the plane gets to about 30 feet away from me, the motors cut out. I'm thinking it's because of the range, but is this range normal? The OP said he could get it out to around 100 feet but I haven't come anywhere near that. Motors usually cut out around 30 feet. Could there be something wrong with the transmitter reciever? Or is this about right?

I have the monowing "jet" and I can get at least 100-200 feet range with it. One of the problems is the plane is so small that it's difficult to tell what orientation it's in at those distances. I end up asking myself "Is it coming towards me or away from me?"

Oh...and swallows (birds) absolutely HATE it. The other day at the park I had a flock of 10-15 swallows dive-bombing it. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Even passers-by noticed the commotion and were laughing.

Is the airplane's battery fully charged and do you have good batteries in the transmitter? You can get these things well over 100 feet away. Make sure you have the antenna out and angled up on your transmitter as well. I took mine to a local park today and got some pretty good distance out of it, to the point where I couldn't see it very well to tell what direction it was going in 😀

I also flew it in an indoor basketball gym today. Flew BEAUTIFULLY! No wind to push it around in. It was the perfect sized airspace for it. If you have one near you, give it a try!

These things are hard to come by. A lot of places have the jet ones but apparently they suck? I found the same frequency biplane in two places, but one and that was all they had!

Yeah, they're all sold out here. I have a friend at Target who is keeping an eye out for me, but I'm not holding out much hope. If you want one with a different frequency, just order it online from that Aero Ace mods store. And yeah, I have a friend who has the jet one and says it stinks compared to the biplane.

I picked up a Jet today. It's a little bigger than the biplane, but not much. Same deal, two motors with a transmitter. $30 at Toys R Us. It flies much different than the biplane, more like a real jet, I guess. Here are some observations:

-takes a long time to turn, or rather requires a lot of room to turn; you'll need a bigger park for this one
-flies like a kite, if that makes sense - more of a floater than a flyer
-awesome gliding capabilities, if you have it high and cut power, it will glide over a hundred feet down
-loses a lot of altitude while turning
-dives require lots of height because it's difficult to pull out of a dive - takes more time
-climbs better than the biplane; more like the biplane with the bottom wing removed
-acts like a lawn dart if you hit the nose just right, or else flops around like a football if you don't do a gliding landing
-crashes much more easily; not as forgiving as the biplane
-tends to tilt a bit to one side or the other, based on which way it just turned. Just the way it's designed, I guess, body is shaped that way.
-handles wind better and worse in different areas - if you're facing into the wind, it holds it's own a lot better than the biplane, but if you're turning or something it just tumbles away
-requires about 1/2 throttle to maintain good forward flight; biplane requires less than 1/3

If it's your first r/c airplane, I'd definately recommend getting the Aero Ace biplane instead. The handling characteristics are much more forgiving and it has better performance, plus you can fly it in a smaller area. The jet is fun, but not as much fun as the biplane. You feel like you have more control flying the biplane (a LOT more, actually). The jet is more like a remote-control kite, fluttering in the wind. I wouldn't say don't get one, but if you have the opportunity to get the biplane I'd say get that instead.

I'll post pics later.

I got my batteries charged and the plane up and flying last night. Good times. I just had it out for a few minutes in a 1/3 acre open area on my lot. There's a few trees and the house so I couldn't really get a good running area with it. Weather providing tonight, I'm taking it down the road to the 50 acre sod farm that is wide open to really test the limits and ranges of it.

For $30 it's a hell of a little toy. My only complaint is that I'm suspect of the durability of the charging connector. Seems like a very easily broken part of the plane.

Thanks for the heads up on this little gizmo 🙂

Wow, this thread is still alive? Sweet!

I still have my fleet of 3 biplanes and a jet. I knew a basketball gym would be sweet but don't have ez access to one right now. Also, it's been breezy here lately so I Haven't had a chance to fly. I know this is dreaming, but wouldn't it be cool to sneak one into an NBA arena or something...Talk about a great flying space with no wind.

I think I'm about to start modding one of my biplanes...make a new design or something. I'll let you know what I come up with 😛

Yeah, the "fuel nozzle" as the manual calls it 😉 I pushed it too hard into the airplane my first time and the plastic assembly on the bottom of the plane got pushed up a bit, so now it wiggles whenever I attach the charger. Don't push too hard! You might want to pick up a transmitter clip for $5, which lets you attach the plane to the transmitter rather than having it dangling around. Scroll down on this page until you find "AA Clip":

First mod - remove the lower wing & strut. This really improves performance. It's a bit harder to handle, but if you've been flying for awhile you won't have a problem. Also, if you can fly the jet, you can handle the biplane without the lower wing no sweat.

As far as gyms go, my local church has a carpeted indoor basketball court. You might also want to check out schools; the local high school has a pool open with a full-sized court that nobody ever uses during the summer. It's been kind of windy lately so indoor places are a good place of refuge 🙂

I got pretty good with the biplane and the wife was playing with it more than I was, so I picked up the jet last night. I haven't had much time to use it yet (didn't work so well in the dark), but it seems pretty cool so far.

Can anyone recommend a plane in the $100-150 range that's a bit better than these planes?

With the biplane, I've found it best to fly it in the tennis courts at my apartment complex (nobody uses them) because the fences block the wind and they're lowered a bit. With the jet, I need to go into the field across the street. It's a much higher speed plane and needs alot more room to do anything. I can fly the jet in the pair of tennis courts about as well as I can fly the biplane in my living room (read: I've gotten them both to do a full circle only once). But the biplane does not take well to even the slightest breeze that is constantly blowing across the field across the street, whereas the jet is a bit better. Being a higher speed plane means that in a breeze you can fly the jet and actually have it come back to you. The biplane is so low speed that a breeze blows it away.

OMG I want to fly mine in a gym... I flew mine outdoors and it wasn'tw indy to me or anything, but the biplane STRUGGLED to even climb 20 ft... Bleh.

I've found that sometimes mine climbs well, sometimes it struggles, and having a little wind can HELP it. I've gotten mine up over 100 feet, but 2 minutes later I couldn't get it over 20 feet.

has anyone got oone of those Storm Launchers?

I actually just got a storm launcher 2 days ago. I havent had too much time to play around with it, but from the first run it was pretty bad. Hardly moved through the grass and couldnt really get up in the air. I have read though that it takes a couple of runs to get the motors going. I'll report back when I have more time.

It's a bit more than your price range at $220, but here's a good one:

http://www.hobbyzone.com/rc_planes_parkzone_typhoon.htm

Includes everything, plus they have a special that includes a second battery. It can be upgraded later with LiPOs if you want to use those. I've read that the tailfeathers are a bit stiff at first and may strip the servos, so you may want to pick up some spare servos.
