Actually two other people were contacted about the same thing (both using more bandwidth than I do). The reason I got the call really has nothing to do with ToS violations but the bandwidth usage.

The guy who was not breaking the ToS (running a web-crawler) was told he could not do that even on small business so getting conflicting reports. I am still not 100% sure they are going to have a problem with me doing this on business due to the conflicting reports.

I have no problems going business I just didn't think it made a difference to VZ really. I mean why go through the trouble to get $30-60 more from a few select customers per month?

Also considering VZ is probably still profitable even with my heavy usage I don't see why they would bother going after people but my $0.02

You can see more of my reasoning behind the profitability thing on the dslreports thread if you don't think that is the case.

Ummmmm....did everyone just skip over the fact that the guy they talk about posted and he's been a member here since 2008?!?!?

I have colo and dedicated servers too. Just FYI the bulk of that was not done from my home connection an anime is kind of a grey area. I have only ever gotten a DMCA on FIOS like once for some stupid thing I torrented for someone else and forgot to shut off.

That hardforum post is by one of the other guys who got called by VZ. The two others who have said they were contacted (on the same day) actually use more than me. One guy downloads 90-100TB every month where atleast I am about 75% upload. Also my average month is more around 30TB and that one 77TB month was a ton of downloading off-site backup from some servers I have.

Wow, you avg'd 30MB (240Mb) per second for the entire month! Is this on a single FIOS line? What sort of bandwidth are you paying for and how much does it cost?

And here I am stuck with 8mb ADSL lol. Upload is even worse, 1mb. Used to be 512k, was recently upgraded to 1m but it's as high as it can possibly go.

I've thought of coloing a box for offsite backups, but kinda pointless with my bandwidth. I do have a rental box for my sites and that's about it.

The fact that they just told him to stop, vs overcharging is better than if it was a hard cap. imagine paying the surcharges on that much bandwidth.

I think the way caps should work is once you reach it, it should just throttle you. I'd rather be stuck with low speed for the rest of the month than have to pay hundred or even thousands of dollars because I forgot to close my p2p vm or something. Thankfully my ISP has no caps though.

My dream come true would be to be able to get a super high speed line like 100mbps, and I'd probably start a mini colo if I could get a few of these brought in. Just the thought of having that kind of bandwidth, in my house, makes me jizz in my pants.
