I don't think any of my friends have ever done any sort of an invite for anything through face book. Then again, I am 30, so pretty much all of my friends can afford cell phones....
What has "afford" got to do with it? Facebook makes sending invites to large groups very, very easy. Using a cellphone to send 40 invites, whether through text or calling, is painful.

There is a new feature coming out on facebook soon. It's face recognition software that you will be able to use to tag your pictures. If somebody post your picture and tags it on facebook, you can be recognised everywhere you go....
Think of it, If you walk into a store, the clerk will be able to know who you are using a camera and facebook.

Nothing you can do about it either you poor poor facebook haters....
LOL

Its like Minority Report.

Everyone ages 5 and up has a cell phone nowadays you twit. And what does a cell phone have to do with anything? When organizing an event, are you really going to call every single invitee? Oh, that probably works with your large pool of TWO FRIENDS.

Remarkably easy. Easy to run through a list of Contacts to select those you want to send a text to, or an email. Even with the stock Messenger app. For Android anyway. Its even more robust with Handcent or email clients like K9.

Not as easy as a full size screen, a mouse and a keyboard :) Plus when organizing on Facebook it's easier to track who is going, who is a maybe and who says 'no', plus you can have public discussions about the upcoming event where people can throw ideas around. The event page also gives you a place to put photographs and discussion after the fact. There are a ton of advantages to organizing over Facebook instead of a cell phone, but some people are so blinded by their hatred of FB that they can't see that.

Cops need to stay off of facebook, seriously. We had to open the site up on our packeteer in our school for the in house rent-a-cop, and now all the kids are getting to FB via alternate proxies. All he is doing on the site is following up on cyber bullying allegations. He said he spends a good part of the day doing this now. It's such a waste of time and resources.

A friend of mine also got a call from an Albany cop recently about a complaint about something he put on his "wall". The cop explained that there is nothing they can do, but politely asked him to take the comment down because the woman keeps calling upset about it. It was some joke about this chick's hair or some stupid shit.

Cops really need to stop with this shit.

Think it's a double edged sword. Agree with your points but the guy in the article, most likely, was happy to have the police try and clear the mistake up.

Yeah, no doubt, it turned out good in this case.

I just think as a whole this website wastes taxpayer dollars. It would be interesting to know how many calls a night come in about Facebook issues, I would hope not many. Like I mentioned above our cop now does quite a bit of Facebook monitoring, which means he isn't a presence out in the halls as often now.

Sounds like voyeurism. Wouldn't be surprised if there were complaints in the future from some on the ladies.

I would think the same (especially with this particular cop), but I've actually seen many of the referrals he hands out, and some of the kids even get suspended if it is severe enough (that usually happens if there is nudity or sexual acts posted).

I just don't understand how something that happens off of school grounds that is posted on FB is justification for them to be punished in school, but with these types of websites things are changing and unfortunately kids mostly use it for negative reasons. The administrators seem to think FB is an important tool to find out who is to blame in a lot of these situations, and the kids do get punished.

It's all about control. Maybe the educators should try educating instead.

you're probably one of those damn texters...
I txt some people sure, but usually only the people who I know have text plans. But, I don't text my friends who don't have txt plans...

Ok, true, and usually I send invites via email for bigger gatherings. But a smaller party, I just call people up... facebook assumes that all recipients have and use facebook... which is one reason why I don't like it.

Even if I had only 2 friends, I still have a decently large extended family. You got me on the cell phones... I just see a phone as an one superior technology over facebook in just about every way. Then again, email is better too IMO. If a person's presense is important enough that I care if they make it to an event I will tell them in person or call them, absolutely.

Mostly I just loathe facebook and see it as a complete waste of space and a dumbing down of the internet.

Someone here recently got shafted by his "friends" when he was throwing a party, they confirmed their commitment and then didn't bother to show up. Wonder if these were facebook invites/friends?

Facebook sends emails for you, as well as sets up a page where you can manage who is going as well as discuss ideas. It is a lot easier to blast everyone with facebook than individually add everyone as a recipient to an email.

For important guests, yeah talk to them too. However, when you have a decent sized event, talking to every single person would be annoying.

Facebook is far from a waste of space. It is just another way of getting in touch with people. For example, it offerse a good way for my mom to get in touch with her relatives in the phillipines and see what they are up to via their pictures, walls, and such. Talking on the phone would be more expensive, and email would just be too difficult.

As far as dumbing down the internet, what does that even mean? How can the internet get "dumbed down"? If you mean that Facebook just serves as a way for dumb people to express themselves more easily, then I agree, but I wouldn't call that "dumbing down" the internet.
