You've heard the horrors of what they do.
I've always been a fan of USPS, probably have had over 500+ items shipped from them by now, all 500+ luckily are fine. UPS on the other hand, probably around 50-100. This is the unlucky one.
This is why I trust the USPS more than the UPS.

See pics, they are HUEG so keep that in mind.
What the UPS guys did photo album

Currently about to go through UPS claims. So those of you who prefer or are undeclared on a primary shipping carrier, this is your PSA.:thumbsdown:

It's all dependent on circumstances and your local people, in my experience.

I've had the least problems with UPS and FedEx about equally, and most with USPS.
I've done more business with USPS, though, so I would say it about evens out.

I generally don't UPS on the shipping side because USPS is more convenient, but they appear to be the best of the 3 for larger ground shipments, FedEx is good for light/overnight and 2nd day options, and USPS is good for their national Priority and standard snail mail.

The only carrier I consistently had problems with was DHL. Good riddance.

Looks like a heavy box fell on your package.

Could happen at any sort facility as I saw show on tv that said average package gets dropped about 30 inches 3 times at sort facility, and outer box should be able to withstand, IIRC, 50 lb. package on top of it.

Kind of looks like someone shipped in the original mobo box, without outer box with padding all around (I think all shippers require 2 inches all around to even honor any insurance that was purchased).

Sorry for your loss, but looks like shipper did not package probably and should refund your purchase.

Thats disgusting! Ive always used Fedex myself, NEVER had an issue. Sucks OP, claims shouldnt be too bad though considering the damage.

But yeah, in either case, wow...someone fucked up!

I had a computer delivered from my bro to my house back in the 90's. A full=sized tower, beast of a thing.

UPS guy let it slip out of his hands as he was walking it to me from the driveway.

"Ooops!, here ya go kid!"

I suppose most people, especially then, didn't realize the fragility of these computers w/ components installed

Also, don't say bad stuff about UPS. They are a ninja organization.

You gotta ask yoruself: what can brown do to you?

Box pics added. It's just your standard amazon box that held a motherboard box that held the motherboard.

It's like someone stomped on a corner of the box or something mashed it like you guys mentioned.

If you ordered from Amazon.com.

You do not need to go through UPS claims.

Amazon will overnight you your items and deal with UPS.

Amazon = win.

UPS is fine.

UPS > USPS.

Fedex > All.

Ya, talk with Amazon, the shipper has to deal with UPS anyway, I didn't understand that the first time I got a broken package from UPS.

You think that's bad? You should see the AVR I got from Amazon.

Amazon usually ships to me through UPS, but this time they shipped a few things through FedEx... I thought that was weird, but whatever works! I got the package from my apartment's office and well... it looks like they let the Hulk perfect his Hulk Smash on it. Luckily, the AVR was in another box inside the very destroyed box and was protected by the foam.

EDIT:

FedEx also left my blu-ray out in the blazing hot sun for 5 hours... yeah, I wonder why it has green or blue splotches randomly appearing when I play it? UPS puts my stuff out of the sun when they deliver it... and UPS will also call me if it's a large item or a few medium-sized items. I asked FedEx to call me when I had my new TV Stand delivered from Amazon... the rep said they would call, but I never got a call. I found out it was left outside my door by the tracking website.

IMO, UPS has treated me a lot better so far.

Nopes, it's not from amazon. The box is theirs, someone used the amazon box to send it to me.

It was probably smashed (box) when they got it (from Amazon), and it was a perfect cover up sending you the broken motherboard and coming out even after insurance.

Wait a sec. Why is RAM installed? Why is the CPU installed? Why is thermal compound spread onto the CPU?

Every time I see one of these X shipping companies have fucked up my package threads I get paranoid despite the fact it's the exception not the rule.

Packaging looks borderline to me, but I think there was also an element of bad luck for that particular package (looks like something heavy fell on that corner of box) Amazon boxes don't seem as sturdy as they used to be, but I bet it is cost effective for Amazon to risk using shoddier boxes and just deal with low level of shipping damage after the fact.

That being said, shipper should be offering you a complete refund, filing claim himself, and your only responsibility should be to hand damaged package and contents to UPS driver when claim is received and processed. Might want to pull the memory sticks, though, because I don't know if you / shipper will get any of the damaged items back.

I don't think shipper really has a valid claim because they didn't have 2 inches of padding all around, so you might also want to renegotiate for RAM and cpu and have him refund difference. His package may have protected mobo if it was thicker box, and especially if it had not come with cpu hsf installed (plastic is brittle and just sustained pressure from heavy box on top, if box isn't sturdy enough or there isn't enough cushion around, could basically snap hsf, then maybe that heavy metal piece was rattling around in sort facility and did other damage. Not quite sure of actual mechanism of damage here.

I tried to replicate the collateral damage process, by taking pics and re-packaging it.
Basically something BIG or someone's boot did a roundhouse to this box or something. That's the only way this was possible.

It was all the plastic peanuts, about half an inch's worth with plastic peanuts between the middle thus, only a mashing force impact would have damaged it. Yeah, the shipper left the HSF and memory / cpu on (I wouldn't do that) the damage isn't from the HSF, it's from the other side.

Inside the motherboard box was more plastic peanuts - kind of pointless, only purpose would be to keep it from wriggling around. So there is definitely some force trauma involved, motherboard sustains inner injuries :p.

I'm not mad, I am also a seller and I know these things happen. Out of all these years of working online, this is the first one and it happens to be UPS. I've watched those youtubes of their guys throwing the boxes, so maybe I am biased..

And yup, think I'll take off the other components before sending this over to UPS. Don't know what they'll do with the cpu/ram if it was on.

I'll cut their arms off, they deserve it :D
