Dish is the best choice for my area.

mb it was just the deal i signed up for. it was a pretty good price, 5.95 / month for the 1st 3 months, 1 year contract at the end of which all the equipment is mine. so i know they aren't making a whole lot of money off me, but it's ridiculous to charge S&H for parts that went bad. parts that are covered under guarantee. and they want to charge me each time they send a technician out. it's not the amount of money that burns me as much as it is just the annoyance of the whole thing.

comcast has a deal where if i turn over the dish to them they give me $25.00 off per month for 18 months. i can get basic cable and cable internet for less than my current dish contract. i think i can live with that. i don't watch any of the premium stations anyway.

DirecTV is much better than dishnetwork...

Make the switch, it's one you'd be happy with making.

(and yes, I've used both before... the difference is utterly amazing)

yup. i'm starting to believe there is truth to the old adage, you get what you pay for.

I have so many choices here. Naturally, Dish Network, DirecTV, Comcast Digital Cable also a service are for Verizon DSL. I currently have everything with Comcast. I get 400 channels (my wife watches TV, not me) high speed Internet (>=3.0MBps) but pay what I think is alot ($129.00/mo) Granted, I have the best Comcast package (Digital, first and second tier of programming, everything but the other pay channels (Cinemax, Starz))

I was looking seriously at Dish, but not now. I suppose I will check out the DirecTV plans & options. A lot of people I work with have DirecTV, but with those "boxes" and special "programmers" and U & HU "loopers" and such and that is something I just don't even want to consider.

Platinum Gold, when you were speaking to the CSR about ordering the part did you ask to speak to their supervisor about the shipping charges? Perhaps you should ask to speak to a supervisor and let them know what your predicament is and see if they'll do something about shipping. Also about that 'rent to own' program, I am not aware of anything like that although from the sound of it you definitely aren't under the Digital Home Plan program because they don't get charged $90 to send out a technician.

yes, not the digital home plan, that plan is a rent equipment, no own deal.

i've asked to talk to supervisors on numerous occasions, they won't budge on any of the charges.

I'm thinking about dropping Comcast and getting Dish. Dish has a deal now where you can get two receivers (one HD and one standard) with HD programming for $44 a month. I don't see any deals like this on DirectTV's site.

good luck with Dish.

seriously, when dish works it's been great, there CS has been pretty bad tho. again, it's probably because i got such a great deal on the package and they really don't stand to make a lot of money on this deal.

Ive had my share of problems with my Dish Service, but their customer support has always been prompt and curteous.

i'm glad you've had a good experience, it doesn't justify what they are asking of me tho.

and the saga continues.

3 weeks without service, they install the second dish BUT the switch is bad. they guy that came to do the install doesn't have any of that particular switch with him (he also privately tells me that he never uses it because it goes bad so often.)

anyway, they finally mailed a new switch out to me. but the next time they can schedule a tech to is march 11.

it will be over 5 weeks without service and it MAY or may not work (i'm going to assume that it will work).

anyway, not happy would not come close to describing how i feel about dish right now.

I've been through numerous heavy heavy heavy thunderstorms here, and my DirectTV system has NEVER EVER lost signal. I've been more that satisfied with DirectTV.

it's not so much that, what happened was the installer didn't weather proof the switch and water got in the switch and it eroded.

fine, that can happen, my problem with them is their response time, it shouldn't take 5 weeks to fix this.

actually, i got signed up for comcast because of this dish nonsense. as soon as my contract with dish is ended, i can send my dish equipment to comcast for a $25 / month discount on their services for 16 months. not bad.

i'm done with dish, if i ever get satellite again it will be with direct tv.
