Ok, so i've been a pretty big proponent of dishtv but lately i've been pretty unhappy with their CS.

every day for the last 4 days i've called because my service is going out. apparently they set me up with an SW64 switch which is needed IF you have 3 dishes and multiple receivers. they Installer however only set me up with 2 dishes (actually 2 lenses).

anyway, so right now i have NO service and the best they can offer me is they will charge me $90.00 to send a tech out here.

WTF is up with that??

i think i'm going to go back to cable once this contract ends. i'm fed up with these guys. what they are doing is disgraceful.

i'm having SOOO much trouble with Dish tech support. :(

i'm 3 weeks without service and it's STILL not fixed. :(

the tech that finally came out today after THREE WEEKS CAN'T FIX the problem because he isn't carrying the part we need. DISHTV wants to charge me S&H to SHIP THE FVCKING PART TO ME.

edit

and the saga continues.

3 weeks without service, they install the second dish BUT the switch is bad. they guy that came to do the install doesn't have any of that particular switch with him (he also privately tells me that he never uses it because it goes bad so often.)

anyway, they finally mailed a new switch out to me. but the next time they can schedule a tech to is march 11.

it will be over 5 weeks without service and it MAY or may not work (i'm going to assume that it will work).

anyway, not happy would not come close to describing how i feel about dish right now.

I have only the one receiver and I've been happy with it overall, though i will say that when it rains hard it does indeed sometimes go out. I keep meaning to go and try and raise the signal, but it does seem pretty damn strong on clear days. Oh well :(

I'm in Oregon where God invented rain and I never lose signal *shrugs*

I bet some of the AL thunderstorms can give anywhere in Oregon a run for their money. I've never before seen a place that can piss down so much rain in such a short period of time!

Skoorb you are a few short of 34,000 posts!!! :Q

I have Comcast Digital Cable and I am thinking of going to Dish, but now.... hmmmm... thought the $129.00/mo I am paying now is a little high. (Includes 3Mbps Internet)

ya, but it's not the rain.

i think the snow and freezing rain caused a disconnection of types. unfortunately our dish is on top of a 3 story roof and i don't have a ladder long enough to get up there (there is no access from below except up side of wall with ladder).

Compudog

i think you have a decent deal.

i'm paying $45.00 / month for my dish (NO premium stations) and $29.00 / month for my dsl.

IF i got premium stations i'd probably end up paying about $30.00 / month more so your paying a little more but not that much more.

i'm thinking go basic cable and internet which will run me $60.00 a month and keeping my dsl.

A 64 Switch can be used with 2 "lenses", I don't think that is your problem at all.

I have no DSL here. I'm paying $40/mo for cable internet, though it may be $45 once the initial period ends. Dish costs me exactly $40/month (no extra crap) and that's with the top 100 and local. Actually it may be $45 with the local ;) Anyway it is a touch cheaper than cable here. It rarely goes out, just sometimes when it's raining very very hard.

i don't think so either. that's just what one of the tech said.

i'm willing to bet that a cable just disconnected at the switch.

oh well no matter, they will send someone here in about 10 days to install second dish. at that point he will reconnect cables on the roof.

but it pisses me off that they want to charge me $90.00 just to have someone come and look on the roof and IF the switch is bad, then they want to charge me again to have someone look at it.

cable is much more convenient that way, if anything goes wrong they take care of it without charging you for service calls.

Skoorb I used to live in Florida and currently live in Mississippi and we both have you tied in the downpour department ;) I am interested in getting satellite soon too when I move. My dad has DirecTV and no big problems to speak of with reception and weather.

actually, oregan rarely rains like it does in Florida, Georgia or Alabama.

Oregan drizzles CONSTANTLY for MONTHS and MONTHS but rarely do you get the downpours you get in the southeast.

mb if that's the only difference there were.

in oregon despite the constant drizzling it's surprisingly dry. the air is dry. low humidity content as opposed to what you get in the southeast. in GA / Florida anyway, the humidity is HORRIBLE.

i personally prefer the drizzling but dryness of oregan over the downpour and humidity of the southeast.

also, as our discussion was impact of rain on DishTV, i doubt that the drizzle will have anywhere near the impact of the downpours of the southeast.

I'm gladly willing to except the occasional few minutes out of no signal here and there due to extremely heavy rain in exchange for the ultra sharp picture I get from Dish the other 99.99% of the time though. Some people have very good cable signals (like my father-in-law) but the cable signal at our house was utter crap. We still have basic cable though via our cable internet.

Skoorb, I think Charter has a $29.99/month cable internet version if you call and ask. That's what my dad's on with his. It's basically the same 'Bronze' speed as mine, but supposedly without any basic cable TV signal.

Platinum, do you own your Dish equipment or do you rent?

it's a rent to own type deal, at the end of my one year contract (currently in month 7) i own it.

I didn't realize they had a 'rent to own' type plan (edit: actually, now I DO remember that option now. my friend's on that too.) I'm on the Digital Home Plan (pure rental.) I was under the impression that if anything goes wrong they'll basically take care of it. Maybe they just mean parts though. ThaGrandCow would probably know. Isn't he the resident Dish CSR?

I've been very pleased with them so far. Hopefully I won't run into any issues with them. I just wish they'd hurry up and come up with some Tivo 'Season Pass'-like features for their DVRs. At least I got grandfathered in though and don't have to pay the DVR fee.

ya, i can't really complain about the deal i got, but that's probably why they are reluctant to send someone out for free.

i got $5.99 / month for the first three months (top 120 and hbo/cinemax) + locals and such. pretty good deal.

now i'm paying the normal rates $45.00 / month or so for the top 120 (no premiums).

ya, i kind of figured DirectTV would have better support.

i guess there is a reason that DishTV costs less. they take it out of their services. :(

does it also strike you as extreme for them to charge me shipping to ship me a product that is being rma's or as they said to me, covered under warranty??

God i hate Dish network. they suck you in with their great "pricing" and then nickel and dime you to death.

when my 1 yr contract ends with them, i'm done with them.

I've had them for 3 years, added a PVR last year, I love them...

My only options are Charter Cable with no DSL, Pegasus Satellite, or Dish.

Dish is the best choice for my area.
