Constant oral intake of simple sugars is the worst way to keep up your energy. And If your kidneys can't handle the water, you should see an endocrinologist you may be adrenally insufficent (addison's disease)
Well, I'm going by what an exercise physiologist said while giving a talk to my college's sports teams. He said that after a meal, your blood sugar spikes sharply, then drops sharply as insulin is released, and the drop in blood sugar is what causes post-meal drowsiness. He recommended drinking 50% diluted Gatorade to keep blood sugars at a constant level throughout the day, and he has a PhD in ExPhys and holds many records for our school so I believe him.

Constant stimulation of insulin throughout the day is unnatural and may lead to excess adipose deposition. A good mix of protien, complex carbohydrate is better. Although I am not an endocrinologist, I am board certified internal medicine. Your probably stunting gluconeogenisis, the ability to make sugar, and may induce hypoglycemic states between drinks. There are a meriad of problems we encounter when a person recieves continuous glucose even with exogenous insulin infusions. ExPhys varies from university to university unless he's working for NASA, I wouldn't put too much faith in the degree alone.

I'm not gonna lie to you, I understood about half of what you just said. All I know is that I feel better and more alert with my diluted Gatorade elixir and don't fall asleep in class after lunch, so I will continue to do so even after your cautions. No offense, of course, because you seem like you know what you're talking about, but so did this guy and what he said works for me. Even if it's psychosomatic.

well the whole reason they say chocolate milk is better then gatorade is because it has roughly a 4:1 carb: protein ratio. after a workout it is believed that you generally have about 30 minutes for your body to "super absorb" these nutrients quickly so you recover faster and with less soreness. however there are certain sport drinks out there that are better for you after a workout like Endurox.
Yup, too bad Endurox and all those other recovery drinks taste like bile-fortified cat poo. I have a gallon canister of Powerbar Recovery and it tastes like puke and gives me heartburn.

But seriously, I am a bit concerned about your statement regarding orthostatic hypotension. At least talk your doctor about checking some tests for addison's; cortisol levels and stimulation tests, or see an endocrinologist. Just to be safe.

My body actually craves chocolate milk after working out.
This stuff looks pretty good - they've got a nice variety of flavors. Have you tried the cookie's and cream or the rocky road?Originally posted by: Legend

For protein, bulk whey is a lot cheaper.

no it wouldnt have the same effect. all the stuff found in any liquid gets absorbed x ammount of times faster then the body having to break down the food. keep in mind if you want the full benefit you need to get the milk/ real sports drink in you within 30 minutes after your workout
