So, I didn't know exactly where to post this, but since I encountered it while buying a new camcorder, I figured I'd post it here.

At the Northgate (Seattle, WA) Best Buy yesterday, I was buying a new camcorder and was looking at an extra battery and travel charger with one of the associates. I mentioned that while I wanted a higher capacity 2nd battery, I wasn't comfortable paying the price Best Buy had them at, since I had seen the items on B&H for much less. The associate asked which site I had seen these on and when I mentioned it was B&H, he said they would pricematch them. Not a bad deal, and helpful customer service! Sure, I had to pay sales tax, but I walked out with them that moment, instead of waiting for them to be delivered.

So, keep this in mind next time you see something on B&H that you may want to get right away. Best Buy is ready to make accommodations in order to capture the sale.

Does B&H charge tax?

If you buy in our NYC retail store and take your merchandise with you, we're obliged to collect NYC sales tax, currently 8.875%. If we ship your merchandise to any address within NY state we have to collect tax at the sales tax rate for the destination. If we ship your merchandise to any USA destination outside NY state, no tax is added to your order.

We're in the process of implementing a system whereby non-USA customers can have VAT and local import duties included in your payment to us. It's in place for most European countries and more destinations are being added as speedily as possible.

Thanks henryp. My experience with B&H has always been a plus. When buying a multi $K item, the sales tax can be a huge difference. Just got my new B&H catalog - awesome!

Thank you. This may be of interest:
NY Times article http://nyti.ms/9LiJIL and editorial http://nyti.ms/dlFubS on http://twitter.com/search?q=%23amazonAmazon and sales tax.

I hate to move money out of my wallet as much as the next guy, but I have to say I also like paved roads (snow-cleared in winter) schools, hospitals, police and fire departments and the other stuff my taxes are supposedly paying for. (I know -- there's plenty of incompetence and waste and I do NOT want this to devolve into a pointless political debate BTW).
MY PERSONAL OPINION HERE.
