PSA: Benchmade knives are really, really sharp....

Don't use a freshly sharpened Benchmade 154CM Mini Griptilian to try to pry off the lanyard ring from a L1. Because it, um, could slip or something and go *completely* through your thumb and also slice your index finger pretty good. Then, as blood comes literally pouring out in buckets, you could pass out, hit your head on your desk dropping the phone (talking to your wife who's trying to keep you calm until she can take you to the hospital, but ends up calling EMS since she can't hear you any more) and when you come to about 10 seconds later realizing you were thrashing around a bit while you were out and got blood absolutely everywhere making the scene look like someone was cut up with a chainsaw or something. Then when you get to the hospital, the first technician who gets to look at it says something like, "Whoa, I'm, uh, gonna go get a doc, thats' worse than it looks." Then they send you for x-rays, since the knife went across the bone and they want to make sure theres not a chip or two floating around in there somewhere. Then they stick the needle of numbing agent DIRECTLY into the wound and you scream like a little girl until there done, finally getting 9 stitches and your wife threatening to put all those "damn fancy knives" up on ebay.

I'm not saying it was me, but, um, the guy who did it sent me this pic to show the results:

Yeah, I bet that guy feels dumb! Lets' all point and laugh!

ATOT needs a bandaid emoticon.

Ugh, the part where the knife went across your thumb bone gave me shivers. Be more careful! 😀

This is one of those pointing things. You know, where you point and laugh (or gasp) and then think about the really stupid thing(s) you've done to mess yourself up. Though I can't think of anything I've done to top that one.

No nerve damage?

Well, um, the guy who did this to himself doesn't know if there will be nerve damage, he imagines that there will be some loss of feeling though.

i thought it was a good idea to try and trim (rather "shave") my big toe nail with my knife. And as i sat there bleeding from my hand and foot, i just laughed at my stupidity.

It wasn't him! ...

Your misery is my enjoyment!

Good story.

I did something similar with a Swiss Army knife when I was a kid, I nearly took the tip of my thumb completely off.

I love Benchmade knives. I have a collection of maybe 20, including a Limited Edition Damascus Bali-Song. I cut myself on the butter a few times while learning to open it extremely quickly.

I cut the end of my left index finger off doing something similarly stupid. 😱 The nerves healing up hurt really, really bad.

It would seem the OP has paid the price already for lack of critical thinking skills. This lack troubles me greatly as I see few children let alone adults being taught them.

Every day I see situations where an individual is completely unable to play the game of "if I do this what could possibly go wrong?" Perhaps it's because I regularly work with sharp implements and such people that it bothers me so much.

I was expecting a lame post but it was hilarious. Yes Benchmades are really sharp. I have not cut myself on my Griptilian but I got a new Spyderco Delica and as I was pulling it out of my pack, it opened and somehow in one fluid motion cut me. It was so sharp I didn't feel it. A few seconds later I felt a slight tingly sensation, throbbing, and some heat and I knew what had happened.

Be happy it is a sharp knife and not a dull one... dull one is a lot more painful... don't ask how I know...

what is a L1 lanyard string?

Its the lanyard clip on a Surefire L1 Lumamax flashlight. The guy who did this was trying to pry it off with a knife instead of a small flathead screwdriver like he should have, cuz he didn't want to have to actually get out of his chair. Lazy sh!t....
