I hope you filled out the proper ATF paper work and were approved for a short barrel rifle, otherwise that will be illegal as fuck.

Why would it be illegal? it has the non adjustable pistol brace (it is a pistol lower) and I am not installing a vertical fore grip...as long as no ATF agent sees my pressing the stock against my shoulder (which is probably the main gray area for the AR pistol versus SBR), I will not be violating any laws in my state....

My fault, assumed it was a rifle build and assuming gets you in trouble.

I ordered these two yesterday....the upper shipped this morning and will be here on 02/07....

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-...tactical-sob-no-magazine-black-516444971.html

Lower was $199 and upper was $279...have place that only charges $10 for FFL...

Will post some pics when she is assembled....
Congrats, hope you'll be enjoying that soon. Let me get you started with some really good ammo at a really good price. Midway has 450 rounds of IMI 5.56 for $109 with free shipping right now, act fast.

Funny you posted an update to this today, I just finished ordering up the remainder of parts I needed for an AR-10 build. I've only shot my AR-47 once and not yet put even 100 rounds through it and jumped to something else. It's a damn addiction I tell ya.....or maybe I just like to tinker.

On the AR pistol stuff:
I don't remember the exact details but years ago I researched building a pistol. Decided to not do it after reading up since California laws are so ridiculous. Other states may vary.

There is a gray area if you have a rifle and a pistol in your possession. I believe it was called constructive possession. One could conceivably turn the rifle into an SBR using the pistol upper. So they pop you for an SBR. To me, it wasn't worth the risk.

I ended up ordering 1200 rounds for $289 shipped....I already ordered a bunch from Palmetto with that American Eagle rebate...I should be good for the first day or two of the zombie Apocalypse when it starts....

My upper will be here tomorrow but they haven't shipped my lower yet...still in processing status...grrrr..............

Have a Daniel Defense myself. Yes, overpriced, but it's the best AR I've ever owned. Never had a FTF/FTE with it either, even with sh1tty brass/steel. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy a Sig. Much cheaper than my DD, and probably just as good.

Also, as previously mentioned 9mm is the way to go for 1st handgun. I'd highly recommend a Glock for service-ability and price. After you get used to it, you can work your way up. Usually you can find deals for them at pawn shops. I picked up a G17 Gen3, about 2 years ago at a local pawn, and haggled it down to $380 OTD.

Best bet is to to a local run gun range that rents guns and try some. Get recommendations from them and other friends who are into shooting if you can (definitely put the Glocks on your list)...Everyone will have have their own preference on which guns 'feel' the best in their palms....for me, my Beretta 92FS just melts into my palm....

Also need to figure you if you want a bigger full frame pistol (5"+ barrel length) or one that is more easy to conceal/carry (smaller/lighter - barrel length 4.5" or shorter) if that is something you wish to do...I typically carry my Ruger LCP just because it so much easier to carry around even though I have two 9MM sub compacts (MP Shield and and a Beretta Nano)...

I bought a few stripped lowers at market value. I got some complete uppers and lower parts kits from Delton for under $500 each years back. They were fun to build out. I sold one of them to a friend of mine.
9mm
I've got Springfield Armory XD9 Subcompact when they first came out. No thumb safety, which I don't like....but I liked it better than the Glock 19, which was a similar size because it fits my hand better with an extended mags. I really like Sigs, but never wanted to spend that much for a handgun. I paid around $440 for my XD.

My cousin had a few guns over the years that he's traded out (he's the same with cars...never happy with what he's got)

He had a Taurus 24/7 45 ACP. I believe those are made in Brazil in an old Beretta plant that Taurus bought...so many of the machining was probably by ex-Beretta employees when they moved in. Not sure how long ago that happened, but it was a $300 range 45 that felt good. Field stripping that gun wasn't as fun as some of the newer designs.

He got a Bersa Thunder Pro 40cal. I really liked that gun. It felt good and was light...probably a good one to carry.

We used to go to a few gun stores that allowed you to check out guns to try before you buy. It was fun just shooting a bunch of rounds through guns to see what feels right. There are a lot of differences between sights and how each person views them. It's another reason I like XD over Glock...the sights are more natural to me.

I'll inherit my dad's arsenal (and gun safe) one day so I never saw a need to stock up on revolvers, shotguns, or rifles.

The lower finally came in today...huge size difference against the Ruger AR556....

I just ordered a single point sling and magpul angled foregrip...

You really have to wonder if the lawmakers who make these laws about the SBR vs AR15 pistols have ever actually seen them, much less picked one up....

I didn't want to get too political so just being polite. Were you stroking your AR-15 while typing that?

It was in the case in the closet....will be in there until this weekend when I take her to the range....but thanks for asking....
