PSA about hardware and Doom 3...

Chaotic42

No one knows how well system X will work with Doom 3. No one. Not any of us here, not Anand, not the guys at id.
No system available right now will allow you to run Doom 3 at 2048x1536 with 16xAA and 16xAF. It doesn't exist.

Sorry, I had to get that off of my chest.

And not only that, it looks like doom is far from being ready.

No Doom III In 2003

Yup, that too. I really don't want to sound like a jerk, because I'm not pissed or anything, it's just that a lot of people don't seem to realize that no one knows.

You dont sound like a jerk,I too am tired of all the " will this run doom3 ok ... bla bla ... "

Wait till the freakin game is out on the shelves then buy the video card that will run it,no use buying things for the future since it changes too fast.

Half-Life 2 will be out in 2003 (Sept). That is the next (very) big game people will be playing. If you are upgrading your system to play a new game, do it for HL2. D3 is still a ways out.

as someone mentioned before have any of you considered that this game will suck so bad no one willl want to play it

this is the kind of hype that kills games / expecting it to be the greatest thing since sliced bread is just asking for disappointment

asking how well my hardware will run before it is out is very foolish and building a system today to play Doom 3 is borderline retarded IMO

the best indicator is the alpha builds so it should perform no worse than the alpha build barring any major changes in the game engine

you shouldnt build a rig for a game in the first place, if you HAVE the game, and it runs at unacceptable levels in your opinion THEN you can think of upgrading hardware, NOT the other way around.

just my opionion tho, but seems rather silly to make a system without even having the software at hand. let alone for software coming out in 6 months. or even longer.
