isn't that the superg that hogs all 3 separate channels of wifi? aka the bad neighbor wifi.

Yes, it is a POS. THe engineers that came up with it should be ashamed of themselves for how destructive it is to neighboring signals....I would think that it might violate FCC rules for transmittant devices but what do I know....

Either way, 802.11n options, Linksys Afterburner, and USROBOTICS's options are only on one channel and wifi-neighbor friendly
I'm probably the only person on WiFi in a three-mile radius, so I'm not worried about it. 😛

That said, I can't wait until WI-MAX is up and running.

Good then😀

I didn't mean to rag on your parade..I was just critiquing the engineering used.
Like I said, I'm in a pretty tech-challenged 'hood, so no worries. 😀

Look out your window tonight and you can see me posting from your front yard.

MWHAHAHAHAHAAHH!
I have a potato cannon and a large bag of onions that says you won't. 😀

and of course the dlink g+ router doesn't do dlink's b+, so some of the computers lost speed.

really, this router is a POS and i'd have returned it except that i cut the UPC off and sent in the rebate

you have the DI-624+ superg router/card combo? I'm having some troubles with it myself, the wireless works flawlessly, but anything wired to it keeps losing the connection...pos dlink 🙁

i bought that router and had to take it back because it was such a heap of crap. there's been a bunch of threads about how crappy it is on AT. i got a netgear AP instead and it's been fine.

I shoulda sprung for something better than 802.11b, but I needed something quickly, and I needed it cheap (a couple of months ago, around the begining of summer. Had to pick it up locally). b is good enough for general surfing, but that's about it.

Just got my new Netgear goodies set up over the weekend and have to say that this takes 802.11b out behind the woodshed and violates it sixteen ways to Sunday. Surfing is basically as fast as surfing over a wired connection. Haven't tried online gaming yet, tho.

This router.

This laptop card.

This PCI card.

How well does the PCI card work? I would think you'd have reception problems with the antenna sitting down low behind the case like that.

Like a champ. Of course, the router and the desktops are in the same room.

It worked great for like 2 months, and I loved it, but then the problems started. POS...whats the most trustworthy networking brand for consumers? Netgear? Linksys? SMC?

Google unlicensed spectrum and become enlightened. You could create a router that utilized the whole unlicensed band (all channels) and as long as it didn't cross the maximum power output threshold, would be 100% legal.

I'd say for well over 90% of all SOHO users, the real-world 5-6 Mbps throughput you get from 802.11b well exceeds their WAN pipe. WiFi adds only a few ms latency from what I recall.

Maybe you had a POS 802.11b router? 😛

There is an option on the WGT624 that you can check to have it detect other signals and not use the channels that are already in use. You have to look for it under the advanced settings, but it's there.

Any word when 802.11n devices will be out (not counting pre-802.11n devices)?

thats on the newer ones only from what i've read. they should have it on by default considering how n00b users would just wipe everyone else out otherwise.
