You really expected a quick answer at almost 4 AM Eastern and bumped it again 2 hours later?

I'll at least try to help, but I'm not a PS person. It seems that they are functionally the same device, with the Gold headset being the U.S. version and the 2.0 being the EU one.

I have a set of the older Pulse Elites. They're decent enough but for $150 you can find a better option outside the PS Brand.

whats the point of this? the ps4 controllers have a 3.5mm headphone/mic jack, you can change the option to also play game sounds through it

Tried using the headphone jack, but you have to go into the PS4 menus to change any settings while playing. With the headset, I can adjust volume, mic, mute and so on with buttons which are recognized by the PS4. Also didn't like having a cord tethered to the controller while playing. Plus, it's pretty cheap so it's not a big investment.

I don't have a wireless headset but can can you get surround sound with the headphone jack? I know some wireless headsets advertise 7.1 and even connect to the optical port.

I'm not sure about that. There is some type of surround with the wireless set as well as game specific profiles that are made available.
