I have been wondering whether or not the PS3 is worth buying if you are strictly an FPS person. i already own a 360 so i was wondering if the PS3 is worth the rather large investment you have to make to purchase it.

The investment now is not way beyond the same investment for a 360. However, most FPS games on the PS3 can be found on the 360 already. The only two that come to mind that are PS3 exclusive is Resistance and UT3.

I have UT3 for the Pc, considering the fact that maps and mutators are much more readily available. But resistance and killzone II interest me.

Would you consider TPS as around the same category as FPS? Because Warhawk and Uncharted are great buys.

If you already own a 360, then probably not unless you have a HDTV and like movies. Then blu-ray + netflix makes the PS3 much more worthwhile.

Otherwise, you have Warhawk and Resistance FOM as the only online multiplayer shooter exclusives (UT3 is only timed). Other good games include Heavenly Sword (short) and Uncharted, but not enough for a $400 purchase.

I'm finding the same thing with the 360: since I have a PS3 and gaming PC there are only a couple of 360 games I care about, mainly Mass Effect. From the reviews it doesn't seem to be good enough by itself to justify a 360.

I know we're in console gaming, but if I was strictly an FPS person, I'd consider buying a video card upgrade before either of the consoles.

Same here, though buying a 360 gets you into the Online Shooter of the Month Club :)

I don't believe there has been any announced date or indication that they've started working on the Xbox 360 port of UT3. There's also the issue of whether MS will allow free user-created content to be used with it.

I think it's safe to call UT3 a PS3 console exclusive until they announce a release date on the 360 version.

Mark Rein says "We are going to release UT3 on Xbox 360 in 2008". So even in the absence of a month/day release, I would consider UT3 a timed exclusive.

PS3: Uncharted, Warhawk, MGS4, Resistance, Haze, Killzone 2, The Orange Box (if you don't have it on 360/PC)

this is a stupid question.

it's worth it if it has games YOU want to play on it or games that YOU want to play in the future when they come out.

or if you want a cheap bluray player.

or both.

If you already own an Xbox and just want it for more FPS...then no. Definitely not worth the $400+ investment.

Resistance and Warhawk are both excellent, so I'd definitely recommend the PS3 with those games...but JUST for FPS games? Maybe not.

I have both a PS3 and a 360.... between them both I only have one FPS... which is Resistance on the PS3. However, on the PC, I have about a dozen. I much prefer FPS's on a computer. With that being said, I wouldn't recommend a PS3 for "only" FPS gaming. In fact, my own PS3 rarely is used for games anyway. For me, the balance ends up being 50% SACD, 30% Blu-Ray, and 20% gaming. *shrugs*

PS3 isn't really worth it for the games.
360 has much better exclusives and a better games library in general.

Only reason to get a PS3 would be for bluray and linux. You need to decide whether a $400 blu ray playing linux computer would be worth it to you.

I recently got a PS3 and for stricly FPS i would recommend a computer upgrade instead, i tried COD4 in the PS3 and it's ok but i still prefer the pc controls, overall is a solid gaming machine.

The media center capabilities, specially watching DIVX movies and listening mp3s from my computer are great and the blu ray player just sealed the deal for me.

Included Wireless adapter, upgradable HD (for a reasonable price) and Linux capabilities are also solid points.

That's not necessarily true anymore. The PS3 has a few great exclusives already, and a number of good multiplatform games as well. Sure, the 360 has the bigger, and arguably better, library, but saying the PS3 "isn't worth it for the games" is REALLY stretching it.

Actually, for someone who already owns a 360, it is still a valid argument if the person doesn't care about Blu-Ray. There are not enough exclusive FPS games CURRENTLY released on the PS3 that are worth a $400 investment if you already own a 360 imho.

Yeh there are 2 exclusive FPS games for the PS3 - UT and Resistance. All others are multi platform and are better on the 360.

I restate again, if you have no use for the HT/AV features of the PS3, there is little value in spending $400 on one.

Exactly. Having a console doesn't mean jack unless you like the games you can get for it.
