Also I would love to explain how the power draw of a console was AT ALL a priority when designing the device. I can guaratee you that the constraints were size, heat output and processing power.

What does the price have to do with it? I have a $250 GPS that can't play DVDs either.
I have a $250 Creative Zen Vision W - it can't play DVDs either! Not many people use an Xbox or a PS2 as a DVD player anymore. When they came out a DVD player cost you $300. Now a DVD player is $40.

i get about the same results and my 360 using one of those watt meter things. theyre pretty cool, i use it to test everything! hahah
not suprised the wii won, afterall it has nothing like the grunt of the 360 or PS3, and is merely an update gamecube in an even smaller box and a nice remote. GC itself wasnt even that power mad as it was.
its a rather unfair comparison i think, the 360 and PS3 have so much more hardware, as well as that hardware being newer and more powerful. they both pack multicore CPU's and both pack some pretty deft GPUs with high tranny counts and alot of pixel pushing power. add to that hard disk drives and DVD/BR disc drives.
so yeah the PS3 and 360 use more power, but thats becuase there is a lot more to them. they compare nicely to the computer because essentially thats all they are. computers in small boxes. where as the Wii is more like a traditional console that does the job a console was always meant to. play fun games.

It would have to come as a peripheral update. The Wii can't be certified (or whatever you call it) for DVD-playback because it doesn't have digital audio-out.
