Me too jeez

Expect to save $20-50+ per month when you do. And SLI users will save more than that.
With the rig in my sig, noooo way is that accurate. My house has two computers in it running almost 24/7 and the electric bill when we're not using the A/C is around $80/month TOTAL. This is for a three person house and is including the fridge, washer/dryer, all lights, the entire bill.

I call BS too, with 3 PCs im pulling $80 bills with an old fridge, electric heat, washer/dryer, and 30 minute showers.

There's no way that's accurate, I've worked it out before and you save couple bucks tops ($1-$2 a month). My time is worth more than that.

I love how the $250 Wii can't even be included in the DVD playback test.

What does the price have to do with it? I have a $250 GPS that can't play DVDs either. 😕 I have a $250 Creative Zen Vision W - it can't play DVDs either!

Not many people use an Xbox or a PS2 as a DVD player anymore. When they came out a DVD player cost you $300. Now a DVD player is $40.

The big peak at the end is from stopping the movie and going back into the console. This makes for a good segway!

Segway?

SEGWAY?

SEGWAY?

It's "segue" goddamnit. Bring me the head of the editor-in-chief!

The article's content also calls for a MasterOfTheObvious.jpg - anyone who's familiar with the consoles in any sort of technical manner would know this instantly. Hell, my kid brother could probably figure it out based on the physical size of the console.

i get about the same results and my 360 using one of those watt meter things. theyre pretty cool, i use it to test everything! hahah

not suprised the wii won, afterall it has nothing like the grunt of the 360 or PS3, and is merely an update gamecube in an even smaller box and a nice remote. GC itself wasnt even that power mad as it was.

its a rather unfair comparison i think, the 360 and PS3 have so much more hardware, as well as that hardware being newer and more powerful. they both pack multicore CPU's and both pack some pretty deft GPUs with high tranny counts and alot of pixel pushing power. add to that hard disk drives and DVD/BR disc drives.

so yeah the PS3 and 360 use more power, but thats becuase there is a lot more to them. they compare nicely to the computer because essentially thats all they are. computers in small boxes. where as the Wii is more like a traditional console that does the job a console was always meant to. play fun games.

Or the amount of heat they generate.

Next up, power consumption benchmarks : quad xenon 3.0G vs pentium 3 500mhz ... p3 wins!

Also I would love to explain how the power draw of a console was AT ALL a priority when designing the device. I can guaratee you that the constraints were size, heat output and processing power.

Heat output = power in

$40? your paying too much

i can go to ASDA (wal-mart for the UK) and buy one for £9.99 brand spankin.

its utter garbage of course, but the point is i can buy a dvd player for less than most movies cost.

Yeah, my entire electric bill is about $70 total/month total and I run a dual-core E6600@3.0Ghz + 1.7Ghz Pentium M with Folding@Home on each core 24/7. The E6600 based desktop has an X1900XTX also, so it's not exactly a power miser.

Actually, the Wii is really badly engineered. I can assure you that my ti-84 calculator draws much less power than the wii. The TI-84 must be the best engineered device known to man!!!!!!! 😕

WTF are you talking about.

Your sarcasm detector must be poorly engineered.

fridge doesn't use too much power.

i was gone for pretty much the whole of november, (except the first 2 days), and my bill, with just the fridge and the water heater on, was about $10. and that's with $0.16/kwh pricing.

I used to leave mine on 24/7 for a few months and my bill went down $18-20. Your electric rates may be lower than mine.

The Wii can but Nintendo has chosen to disable that function in the firmware. Perhaps a future update will allow for DVD playback.

It would have to come as a peripheral update. The Wii can't be certified (or whatever you call it) for DVD-playback because it doesn't have digital audio-out.
