PS3 upscaling Question

So I just ordered GuiltyGear AccentCore Plus for playstation 2.

I own a 20gb PS3

Does pressing X+O to enable 480p do anything anymore, or would the PS3 already be using progressive.

Or is it rendering in interlace, but outputting progressive?

I've never heard of the X+O trick but then again I never had a PS2. I do know that in GT4, if you set the in game resolution to 480p, it overrides the PS3's display settings. For all other times, the PS3 will automatically scale PS2 games to whatever resolution you have the console set at. So if the PS3 is set to 720p, the game is upscaled to 1280x720, or as close as possible, and deinterlaced.

In some games you enable 480p by pressing the button combination during the loading screen.

So does ps3 output 480p mode, if i set the in game to 480p? or does it render 480p vs 480i and upscale it into something else?

I have Guilty Gear X2 and it looks better using the X + O trick. If you don't use the trick, you get 480i upscaled to 720p, which looks far worse than native 480p IMO. God of War 1 and 2 look much better at 480p too FWIW, but those have the 480p setting in the game options.

Ok,, SOOOO,, if i use the button combo, it would switch RENDER and OUTPUT to 480p correct? OR does it Continue to UPSCALE from 480p to 1080p.

Clarify; does your monitor say xxx * 480 when you enable 480, or does it say 1920 * 1080 WHILE your in game menus confirm 480

And also in Gran Turismo 4 I've heard that it does not actually support 480p during Menus, and only outputs 480p during the Race, Is this TRUE?

Not sure about GT4, as I don't have it. The monitor says 480p when I turn it on with the X+O trick in Guilty Gear X2. It says 480p in God of War series too.
