If MS can get a price drop on the 360 as well as Halo 3 out before the PS3 release, I see most people (aside from the Japanese who would buy a used tampon if it said Sony on it) finally saying fvck it and getting the 360. All I have to say is the PS3 better have some DAMN good launch titles, and a lot of em. Isn't the PS3 sposed to be more expensive on launch than the 360? And if the 360 drops in price then that will pretty much seal the deal for all but the die hard.

And I hope the PS3 does fail, I hate Sony with a passion. Not that I am a MS fanboy, I doubt I will ever be purchasing a 360 either, but I would love to see Sony run into the ground. Personally I would love to see Nintendo, or better yet Sega, make a true comeback. Nintendo is coming out with the Revolution which will definitely be cool in it's own right, but the won't be the dominating force in the video game industry anymore which sucks. Possibly why games these days are so dry and blah.

Good news for Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony is foolish to delay the PS3 in the US past holiday-2006.

BBC News

Sony announced simultaneous release for all territories:

It had originally planned to release its new machine in the spring. But instead it is now talking of a November release in Japan, the US and Europe simultaneously. In the past, Sony has staggered the launch of new consoles, with Europe coming a belated third.

"We are absolutely delighted that we will be able to bring PS3 to gamers in Europe and Australia before Christmas," said David Reeves, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

"This is an exciting first for Europe, and is a huge endorsement and vote of confidence in the strength of the European market and its importance globally."

I'll buy one next year, but I'm glad PS3 will have a 60 GB HDD standard and Blu-Ray discs. That way developers can put real effort into HDD usage, without fear of dividing potential userbase.

Fire up your preorders and eBay accounts boys!!

Assuming Sony is able to meet their PS3 production numbers, we are looking at around 400k-600kunits available for launch in each market for Christmas. It'll be worse if they can't meet their projected production numbers...

the $425 is ok, because I was thinking more like $500+. What sucks is that the HD is REQUIRED FOR GAMES, but might not be included? That does not make any sense. That's like selling a system without a controller.

I think they set the $425 as the bottom limit...mind you that is converted from Japanese currency. It could be higher or lower in the states. Maybe we'll get more concrete info at E3.

The info on the HDD is totally confusing.

$425 is not bad, considering it supports Bluray and has full backward compatibility with image quality improvements as a bonus.

What really caught me is the PS1 emulator for PSP.

definitly kind of hoping it is like that for I will do whatever it takes to get ahold of as many units as I can and do the "get rich quick through ebay" scheme. :)

why the hell would u want it too? nobody should buy blu-ray/hd-dvd movies unless they have an HD-capable display. I mean, its the same video, just in HD... so why? lol

I think it is up to the individual publisher. But, it is good to see Sony taking the lead. Hopefully, others will follow for both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

Am I the only one excited about GPS for PSP? Of course, my excitement may disappear quickly once price is announced :D

I'd have to see price, functionality, and features. Sounds interesting but I'm waiting for the DS Lite to hit N. American shores before I decide between it and the PSP.

It might not be bad, but if everyone is required to have a HDD, and they package it as a peripheral only, then I would guess at least another 100 on that, 525.

Well, the latest specs from the AACS state component video will be downgraded to 540p due to non-encrypted, non-digital signal. Now I'm not sure if there just playing with the numbers or what.

Early HDTV adopters screwed by HD-disc rules

If you're one of the first adopters who mortgaged the house to buy the earliest HDTV displays, don't expect to get full HD resolution when you take out a second mortgage for a high-def disc player when they come out later this year. Today the copy-protection rules for Blu-ray or HD DVD ? the two formats competing to be the standard for HD discs ? are being unveiled. Called Advanced Access Content System (AACS), the rules clearly show the major movie studios are determined to stymie potential piracy, but their efforts may short-change people with older HDTVs. AACS says the new players won't output a full-HD signal from their component-video connections, since those jacks are analog instead of digital and thus have no copy protection. The "down-rezzed" signals will be limited to a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels ? exactly one-quarter the 1,920 x 1,080 pixels that you'll get through the copy-protected digital connectors on the players. The potentially huge problem with this strategy is that the only HD inputs on a lot of older HDTVs are component video. Estimates vary, but it's believed 3 to 6.6 million such displays are in U.S. households. And the sun will set on analog video for good after Dec. 31, 2013, when AACS-licensed players can't be made or sold with any analog video outputs, including the familiar yellow composite-video jack.

In addition to the "image constraint" issue, AACS has a few unresolved points, so the first players that are due to come out this spring won't have all the features promised by HD DVD and Blu-ray. For one thing, you won't be able to copy material from a disc to, say, your PC via the "managed copying" function. On the vaguely less depressing side, you should be able to upgrade hardware when these features get finalized ? so all you'd have to do is get an upgrade disc or download the upgrade from the manufacturer. Looking for someone to blame for all this? Pick your target: AACS was jointly developed by Disney, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, and Warner.
