Has anyone had any issues with the PS3 not ejecting disks? My PS3 reads and plays the disk that is in the drive, but when I try to eject it, it just makes the ejecting sounds. I called Sony and of course they will fix it, but for $150 bucks. I am tempted to remove the cover and manually take the disc out since apparently it isn't under warranty anymore. Has anyone been successful fixing such problem?
 
I have the 60gb PS3 from launch, and have yet to have any disc issues. Only noticeable problem I've had is a couple days ago I came downstairs to turn on my PS3 and noticed the red light for standby was flashing. I pressed the power button on front and nothing happened, so I switched it off and back on with the back switch and I was able to turn it on. That's the only thing it's done to me.

Since it's out of warranty, you might as well try opening it up.
But first, have you tried turning it off and then back on and giving it another go? And have you tried the software eject through the XMB? Sounds pointless but you didn't state you tried them so might as well cover all bases here.

But as far as opening it up, the only issue I can see as a problem is the BD-drive is a small form factor BD-ROM drive. Meaning, if you open the case, it's still going to be a closed disc reader. You might try and open the actual disc reader, but that's taking it a bit far and if you are not careful, you risk seriously messing up the pickup head.
There might be a manual eject hole on the disc reader itself, like normal disc drives. Though I have not found anything to state that is indeed the case on the BD-ROM drive.
 
Ya I have tried everything I could think of. It doesn't make sense because the movie is not off the track or anything because it still plays. The drive makes noises like its trying to eject it. So when I press the eject button it must think the game is out because it doesn't show up in the XMB any more. When i restart the system it reloads and the movie shows up in the XMB again. I don't really want to open the system up but I don't want to give Sony 150 bucks for something I could probably do myself.
 
does anyone know if they will still fix it for the $150 if the warranty sticker is removed. So in other words if I try this and can't get it will they still fix it?

I would get confirmation first - IIRC, Microsoft will never repair a console that has that sticker gone. Not sure if Sony has the same policy.
 
It has been out of warranty since august.

Anyway I just did the deed. Opened it up, wasn't extremely hard to do. I was however a little nervous in case I wouldn't have been able to put it back together. Turns out that the netflix BD that I put in there had one of the stop crack stickers near the center hole. Long story short whoever had the movie before me removed the sticker and there was a lot of sticky residue and that is what was causing it to stick in the drive. So be careful if you use Netflix that you don't end up with the same problem as I did.

Thats Microsoft. As long as you pay the 150 they will repair it. I had a friend awhile back take his apart since he got the YLOD. They still fixed it without a problem.

Thanks for the info. BTW, can you imagine spending $150 for something like that? It wasn't even your fault. That would've pissed me off.
 
Have you tried pressing/holding the eject button for 10+ seconds? That is supposed to force it to eject the disc. If that works, then turn the system off and then back on again.
