Yeah, that's interesting to say the least. Sony has never, until now, used an official PS3 logo. It's always been the original PS design and "PlayStation 3" (with that special font) as the logo. Only time it's ever been close to PS3 is on the game cases in the upper left corner, where it is PS and 3 underneath in, in that font.
Written out like that is intriguing. Sony obviously will make a Slim, if they follow the previous trend. And it's an excellent time to drop the price, not to mention up the consumer interest yet again, as has occurred with every other Slim release.
Those leaked Slim photos, are probably demo units, and they probably have been making a couple different styles, with different "PS3" logos to see what they think is best.
My bet: Sony announces and showcases the official PS3 Slim design at E3. It's in the first week of June, so all this timing makes a LOT of sense.
Announce at E3, have it released early fall ahead of the end of the year game releases like Uncharted 2.

That would be pretty awesome if a PS3 slim came out and was like $250 or so.
Oh man these times leading up to E3 are fun and full of rumors!
Why not make it capable of playing all console and PC games ever to exist @ 1080p60 w/ 8xAA while we're at it? That would pretty awesome indeed.
The system is still $400 entry level, and we're supposed to believe the R&D costs plus streamlined components aren't going to offset any minimal savings die shrinks will bring? IIRC the PS3 still costs more to produce than what it sells for...
The streamlined PS One and PS2 Slimline didn't come until each system was selling for half their initial MSRP, and that was when Sony was absolutely dominating the home console market...
Well there are a LOT of things that can be swapped out if the console is redesigned, all smaller components. Many smaller components cannot even be put into the current PS3 design, they'd have to drastically change the interior design and might as well just bring it all together.
There is no other reason to explain why Sony has been so sluggish to bring down the cost to manufacture the PS3. This much time has passed and they've only dropped it to about $430 last I saw.
edit: and believe me, most of the time I just laugh at rumors. But some things are just lining up right now that just seem strange. Yes, pre-E3 brings out all the worst rumors, but this seems a little different.
