PS3 SKU. Which Is more Cost Effective?

I'm buying a PS3 for christmas with the Sony Style Deal. I can't decide which sku to chose.

While the 40 gig is cheaper, the 80 gig does have the USb ports and all those extra inputs. While I'll be playing games on it, I'll probably use it as a multimedia device alot.

I already have a PS2, so BC isnt too big of an issue

Is the 80 Gig worth 400 bucks?

For me, the only thing that would justify going from the 40Gb to 80Gb is the backwards compatibility. Since you have a PS2, save the $100 or whatever the difference is where you live.

The memory card slots are handy if you want to pull one out of a camera, PDA, etc. and pop it into the PS3, but you can always move from cards to a USB drive using your PC.

The 40 GB is going to run a little cooler and use less power since it has a 65nm CPU instead of 90nm.

You could use the $100 for 5 months of Gamefly since many PS3 games are rent-not-buy (Folklore, Heavenly Sword, definitely just rent Lair).

Wait. Aside from the USB ports and memory stick port thingy, what other features does a 80 gig have over a 40 gig anyway?

Best model to get is the expensive launch model... at least that one's got FULL PS2 BC.

Just an extra 40GB (handy if you want to load up photos, music, video) and the PS2 80-90% BC. You do get Motorstorm instead of Spider-man 3 though.

He's using the Sony Style card. There's a $100 rebate for his purchase.

My PS3 just came in this week. I had the $150 discount from this August still available.

I got the 80 gig w/ Motorstorm
+ free shipping
+ a free second controller
-------------
$350+tax after the discount hits.

- SACD (incredibly rare and hard to find type of music disk) support
- Motorstorm is included

I didn't have a PS2 so I appreciated at least *some* backwards compatibility.

Does anyone know if the 40 GB PS3 will work with those USB Memory Card readers that plug into the USB port?
