ps3 region free?

I just bought Jeremy Clarkson's The Italian Job on blu ray hoping to play it on my PS3 but nothing is happening? I thought the PS3 can play any disc from any region. What is the issue here?

PS3 is the worth player to play non-US blu ray discs. I have a David Garrett blu ray from Germany, the disc is supposed to be region free and has a BIG '0' on the disc to signify region free, my PS3 still won't play it. what do you expect from the inventor of blu ray? Avoid Sony blu ray players if you plan on playing a lot of foreign discs.

i dunno if this is still the case, but some bluray disks wouldn't run for me if I didn't disable a blu ray live setting
also the ps3's bluray player is one of the most finicky bluray players ever (assuming you received one with a bad drive)... it won't read scratched or slightly corrupted disks (i.e. rented/heavily used disks) that other players have no problem running (albeit they'll show artifacts in places)

blu ray still has regions, they're just REALLY BIG (3 regions total) and not really enforced

Sometimes even region free discs have trouble playing if they are encoded at 50hz, or have PAL SD extras. Usually if the extras are PAL the player will just skip them or not play them, if they can't convert them to 60hz.

Sony players, while great at playing Blu-rays, are some of the worst with import discs.

The US PS3 is locked at Region A for Blu-ray, and Region 1 for DVD. It want convert or play 50hz content, or PAL SD extras.
