Thinking about picking up the PS Vita and saw a video about a feature called cross platform play. Based on the video, it looks like you can play a game on a PS3, pause, then switch over and continue playing on the Vita.

The video was kinda slim on the details. I have the last Final Fantasy game on my PS3 and really haven't had the time to sit in front of the TV to play it. With this feature, can I play on the PS Vita?

No.

AFAIK, the only game supporting cross platform play is MLB The Show (maybe Motorstorm RC and Hustle Kings, not positive about that tho).

The concept involves having the same game on both platforms, having your save game saved in the cloud, and being able to access it from both systems.

I would expect this to be mostly (maybe only) supported by 1st party Sony titles. I'd like to see more come of it, but I guess only time will tell.

I think what you're wanting is Remote Play, which, doesn't work with most games at this point, and according to Sony, requires the developer to implement it (even tho various Youtube videos have shown people with hacked PS3 systems using Remote Play with games that clearly weren't specially coded to utilize the feature like Red Dead Redemption).

Ahhh, I had a feeling it was something like that... oh well. Would have been awesome to be able to play my PS3 games on the Vita like streaming over my home network while I was relaxing in bed or somewhere other than in front of the TV.

That's called Remote Play. Most games don't support it and the image quality is terrible.
