PS3 profiteering?

So, I was thinking that while I'm not interested in the PS3, it seems like a pretty easy way to turn a profit if you can get your hands on a console on launch day or near it. Supply looks like it will be incredibly tight, and with the Sony hype machine, the demand is almost certain to outstrip supply by a high margin.

So how many of you will pre-order PS3s (or already have a pre-order) for the sole purpose of flipping them on eBay or elsewhere?

(FWIW I have no intention of keeping any of the next-gen consoles)

I have to see good games before I buy consoles. I don't understand people who think any differently. The last game that got me motivated enough to buy a console was Goldeneye 64.

Not going to bother with PS3 for a while. I'll wait until the inevitable technical problems are fixed and the price is significantly lower before I get one.
I plan to get Wii on launch day though.

If people are smart, 100% of them will end up on eBay. Spending $600 on a console is crazy enough, but buying it for $600 and keeping it when you could sell it for $1200 is downright crazy.

I'm not going to bother trying to get one to sell for a profit. Not worth my time.

I'm tempted to try but it sounds like the lines might be pretty bad at this point...not sure if the time it would take to camp would be worth it.

Especially when you consider that you may not even get one if you camp.

Right, but isn't that the point of a pre-order? Or am I misunderstanding how pre-orders work?

I find it amazing that people will pay so much on eBay just for a game console. Wait a few months until they're really available in volume! It seriously will not kill you.

Pre-orders opportunities for the PS3 have been very few compared to the 360.

Right, but at least there's a chance your pre-order might get filled with the PS3

I bought a 360 on launch day and have not regretted it.

I will likely buy a Wii within three months of launch.

I will be waiting until Christmas '07 to think about purchasing a PS3.

I preordered one... might even stand a chance of getting it. Will resell locally for small profit.

I've honestly thought about doing it this time , I kicked myself in the butt for not doing it with the Xbox360 when I saw how much they were sellin for. I want one anyway so if I can't sell it (which I'm sure won't be a problem) I'll keep it.

Where are you preordering it? EB Games and Gamestop aren't taking preorders. Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, Target, etc don't take preorders. I don't know of any store around here that is even taking preorders.

My roommate is doing it. He's poor so I'm bankrolling the effort. Not only do I not have to do anything, I get 50% of the profit. :)

Especially considering the game selection for new systems isn't really great.

I live in Canada, so I don't have access to some of these stores. I know that Rogers video took (a small number) of pre-orders. I vaguely remember hearing that Sony stores will likely be taking pre-orders late in October and I'm fairly certain that Futureshop (Canadian big box electronics store) also take pre-orders. There are opportunities, but they are definitely rarer than with the 360.
