The 360 has obviouisly had its share of issues, but how is the reliability of the PS3? Do you think the extended warrenty is worth it? Looking back, I should have gotten one for the Xbox, but do i need it for a ps3?

It's looking good so far, but it's still too early to tell if there will be any issues. I'd buy it at Costco unless you can get a substantially better deal somewhere else (which, as it happens, you can right now)

After 9 months it seems to really be in the "normal range" of failures for any electronic device. Normal failures like dying hard drives, no pattern of failures yet that looks like a design flaw.

If you can, buy with a credit card that doubles your warranty -- that gives you 2 years of coverage.

There are a few cases of HDD failure, Disk Sucking thingy not taking in disks/not ejecting. But there are no real problems.

Mine isn't, after a bit of gaming the fan ramps up, and it is far from quite. I only hear it if I'm playing late, and have the sound turned down, and through the TV over HDMI, instead of the A/V via optical, so not really much of an issue.

those are some horrible tests tbh, none of them are real world except the first one. i bet even the 360 could go through them no problem.
