its not like you can play them on the 360 either

Not directly, but with TVersity you can stream them if you have the PC capable of transcoding on the fly (it doesn't require much). The PS3 still can't do it this way though.

umm it sure can

you can use tversity or PS3 Media server and do the same thing with the PS3

actually PS3 Media server works fine with the 360 as well

I'm thinking of buying a PS3 too now, I haven't really been playing my PC all summer and my friend always invites me over to play killzone 3 on his PS3 so I might try it out. Im going to buy from newegg because every game is cheaper and has free shipping.

Playstation 3 249.99$ free shipping
God of War 3 27.99$ free shipping
HDMI cable 6$ free shipping

I ended up buying off craigslist. For $250 (I'm good at haggling), I got:

2 mo. old 320gb ps3 slim
3 wireless controllers

Little Big Planet
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Metal Gear Solid 4
COD Black Ops (immediately selling this garbage)
Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction

PS3 works flawlessly, loving it so far.

I like that this new PS3 only uses about 70 watts. That's finally low enough that I can just leave it on between gaming sessions without wasting too much electricity.

How did Sony screw up the marketing? Most people say they can't notice the difference between Blu-ray and upconverted DVD. That's not Sony's fault.

To be fair with Blu-Ray most people don't hook their blu-ray player up properly. They use the red-white-yellow inputs that they used with their DVD player and then complain it looks the same.

Buying a PS3 at this point in the console's life is a great bargain, because you have four (?) years of awesome games to play through, and they're all < $20 if you work from oldest to newest and watch for deals. I don't think I've paid more than $20 for any game I've bought yet, and I have more games than I know what to do with.

I had a dedicated BD player, and when a new movie came out that the player choked on and they didn't have a firmware update for it, I latched onto the idea of a PS3 for Blurays plus games, and never looked back.

As for the value of Bluray, on my 50 inch plasma it is pretty sweet to watch a good BD. Tron, Avatar, either of the Batmans... plenty more that are *well* worth the step up to BD quality. Well worth it.

I agree it was a great time to buy for game selection. That turned out to be a definite perk to having consoles with a longer life span.

My only complaint about my new PS3 is that the controller sucks. I have a minor case of carpel tunnel syndrome, and using the PS3 controller really aggravates it. It's not nearly as ergonomic as the Xbox controller, which I could use all day without any problems.

Also I'm really surprised that I like Forza way better than Gran Turismo.

I am always bumping my thumbs into each other using the dual stick on the PS3 controller since they're right next to each other. :( It's annoying.

Don't be, it was way better. I also hate the PS controller. It isn't nearly as precise in shooters. I know there is a device that lets you play with a wired Xbox controller on the PS3.

Or the devices that let you use a standard KB/Mouse on any game. Thats what i use for online shooters, but i got pretty good with the PS3 pad before, i think most people that complain about it just arnt used to it, i can headshot with it just fine.

The main problem with the PS3 pad is that it is just too small. Plus the stick placement sucks for those of us with large thumbs :D

Blu-Ray had a small window where it could have replaced dvds, now it has to compete with on demand HD delivery as well as wide spread adoption of HD TIVo type recording devices.

And dvds are good enough for casual use and for in the minivan viewing, both of which drive lots of dvd sales.

All of those sales could have been Blu-Rays, but Sony put too much of a premium on upgrading when it should have been basically the same cost as dvds to the consumer, after a much shorter period for early adopters.

I definitely notice the difference, it's just not big enough for me to care.

I think most people tend to balk when Best Buy pushes a $60 Monster brand cable onto them... "but my old cables will work, right?"
