PS3 hookup, which?

Which setup would you use?

  • 27" SDTV in the living room

  • 24" HDTV in the computer room

I'm picking up a PS3 but I don't have a HDTV in the living room.

In the living room I have a good, but relatively old, 27" SDTV. In the computer room my monitor is a 24" widescreen that is also a 1080P HDTV.

If the PS3 were in the living room we'd definitely make use of the Netflix ability which we really wouldn't bother with in the computer room.

Blu-ray isn't a factor as I'm not planning on watching them in either situation.

I'm going to pick up both sets of cables when I get it and try both setups, so I'm just curious as to which way people would go.

A large widescreen HDTV is probably in my very near future but for the time being which would you go with, larger SDTV or smaller HDTV?

Hook it up to your HD monitor. I've tried PS3 on an SDTV and I found distant objects in some games were hard to see.

Get two sets of cables (it comes with the SD cables you'd need for the living room, so you'll just need an extra power cable and whatever HD cable you need for your monitor). Leave one set in each location. Move the PS3 when you want to watch Netflix streaming.

i tried to move the ps3 from the living room 56" HDMI LCD to my bed room 27" sdtv one day, the ps3 refuse to display anything. i guess i have to reset it somehow to default display. i gave up as i'm too lazy to read the manual. i end up just play the ps2 in my bedroom.

You'll have to change what resolutions it's going to display before you move it. Go back to your HDTV and set it just to 480.

Hold the power button in until it beeps a second time, then it'll let you select the resolution.

HD in the computer room but neither is a good option.

you need a 50"+ plasma in the living room stat

It's easy to spend other people's money isn't it? lol 😛

I have mine hooked up to a 26'' HDTV. Works well for me. That size is fine as long as you're not too far from the screen.

Yes, yes I do. Do you mind sending me one? 😉

Unfortunately due to the whole "live within my means" thing a large HDTV is out for now.

In reality I will probably just do as mugs posted, have it setup so that I just need to move the PS3. I was surprised the living room TV didn't get more support, its quite a bit bigger than the monitor so I figured that would have some draw.

Thanks for all the feedback!
