I understand that Anandtech forums belong to the person who may have very different viewpoints from mine, and because of that, this person may do whatever he wishes with threads posted on this forum. Still I wish to voice my concern about this issue.

I strongly disagree with and condone the closing of the thread in hot deals listing an item that allows for the playing of BACKUP games for the PlayStation 3 console.

I made a mistake by posing an inflammatory comment in the thread saying "I love sticking it to the man" which immediately provoked a few people to come in and start talking about how piracy is wrong. This was foolish and childish of me. I could have said the same thing in a different way. I am sorry for making that comment, and I wish I hadn't done so, but my words are NOT a reason to close someone else's thread that technically does not violate AT's rules.

If my comment in particular contributed to the closing, then:

1)This is America, not a nazi regime. I have freedom of speech and I can say whatever I want. Maybe I was lying. For all the reader knows, I do not own the PlayStation game console, I never pirated a single game in my life, and I don't even know what piracy is. Yes, I love "Sticking it to the man" but no one knows how I do it and if I do it at all. It's just a comment, a sentence. Nothing more. And even if I did say that I love the fact that PlayStation games are being pirated(which was clearly visible in my post), again it's merely a comment. You can agree or disagree with me for saying that, but you cant just close a thread on that ground alone. This a a forum. A forum is where people discuss stuff. I stated my opinion on the matter and you can love or hate me for that.

2)The item in question does not allow piracy by itself. Do we ban all threads advertising DVD burners on sale just because we can use them to copy movies in games illegally?

The mod stated that this thread deals with piracy as a reason for the closing, however there is no PROOF that any sort of piracy is involved here. The item in question only allows backing original games up to your hard drive and playing them off of that. You CANNOT play pirated games since you always need the original copy.

It is my understanding that at least in America, one can do whatever he/she wishes with an item in their possession that they legally paid money for. If this wasn't the case, there would be no scandal with that pastor wanting to burn the Holy Koran. But even if that is not so, and what I am saying here is moot point, I still cannot see why the mod closed the thread and I see this an a complete injustice.

Your comment did not contribute to the closing of the thread.

I will point out this.

1)

Not here, if we don't want you to say it. This is a private forum.

We allow the discussion of piracy for the sake of discussion. We do not clamp down on those threads. What we don't allow is the discussion of how to do it.

This device has only one use, and that to jailbreak a PS3.

2)
The item in question does not allow piracy by itself. Do we ban all threads advertising DVD burners on sale just because we can use them to copy movies in games illegally?

There is not just one use for a DVD burner, unlike this device.

You said your piece and I have given you the reasons for the locking of the hot deals thread. Now this thread is locked
