Hey all! I've been a PC gamer for a long time but finally broke down and bought a PS3 the other day. Best Buy had a 120GB models refurbished for $179 so I figured what the hell...wanted a blu-ray player anyways. The only game I am anticipating playing is Final Fantasy VII from the Playstation store. Other than that, I have not kept up with the major console releases of the past few years.

So, my question is, what games would you recommend that any notable PS3 owner should have?

God of War 3

Demon Souls for a challenging action RPG, Metal Gear Solid 4 if you dig the series, also they just released an Ico/Shadow of the Colossus remaster disc, and theres supposed to be an FFX remaster coming up as well.

Uncharted series and the ones that darkewaffle mentioned. You will have people complain about this thread, because there are several ones just like this.

Gran turismo 5, resistance series.
MGS4 is pretty good as well.

infamous 1 & 2, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, God of War series (there are five on the PS3 now, 2 PSP remakes, 2 PS2 remakes), GT5, KZ, Resistance.

Really there is so much you won't have time to try them all, so find a genre you like and start there.

Amazon has a deal on two-packs. You could get Uncharted 1+2 and something else for $20 off.

Note that all versions of the PlayStation 3 are backwards compatible with the original PlayStation, so if happen to have a disc copy of Final Fantasy VII you can play that without buying a new copy from the PSN store.

Another vote for the Uncharted series, though I suggest you play uncharted 1 first, that way you can appericate the sequels even more.

Well, unless your PlayStation 3 is broken it should.

Mine won't play most PS games either. They either won't start (black screen) or hang on the opening video. Maybe one of the updates neutered that feature.

As to the OP:

I haven't bought many PS3 games, but Dead Space plays and looks great on the PS3. If you haven't played it I highly recommend it.

I'd like to play Demon's Souls and the Uncharted series as well.

I got Infamous as a free game, and as a PC gamer I couldn't get into it.

Hmm... maybe it's not as compatible as it's supposed to be. Just checked Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation 3 I bought last week (and updated to the latest firmware). That game seems to work fine at least, though I didn't test it beyond the first battle.

don't the new ones only play a fraction of them?

i really haven't found many PS3 games worth playing. i have the new lego star wars.

most games i play are PS1 and PS2 games. other then that its a blu-ray and netflix player.

Demon's Souls
God of War series
Never played MGS4 but I want to.

Pre-ordered Dark Souls, I'm sure it will be good.

Well, my brand new PlayStation 3 plays all 18 of my original PlayStation games as near I can tell. Final Fantasy IV from the Final Fantasy Chronicles collection has some annoying flashing graphical glitches. The rest, almost all RPGs, played perfectly as far I played them, through to the first battle.

For me Uncharted was one of the best on PS3. never was a fan of GoW being more on games like Tomb Rider. Try Uncharted and tell me ho you like it

Which PlayStation 3s aren't backwards compatible with the original PlayStation? They dropped PlayStation 2 compatiblity, but as I said, my brand new PS3 plays all 18 PlayStation games I own, including the one the original poster mentioned, Final Fantasy VII.

don't have any PS1 games anymore. So can't tell you. Maybe check on the Sony web site? Just know that GoW that I have for PS2 won't run on PS3. Neither will any of my other PS2 games that I had at the time (and since traded in). When i checked at the time, was told that I got one of the "Upgraded" versions that didn't support backwards compatibility. So I took that to mean "All" backwards compatibility.
