Any FAT32 formatted USB device can hold your saves... BUT there are quite a few games that have the saves protected by console. So there's a good chance that even if you transfer over everything properly some saves still won't work. There's nothing you can do about this AFAIK

LOL

Seriously, just search for "USB Drive" on amazon. A 4gb is ~$10, and 8gb is ~$20. Anyone will work fine. Just pick one you like. Not that difficult.

4gb should be plenty.

Yep.

So, if you already have a USB drive (which most people do), then you can use that to back up saves.

make sure the drive is formatted in fat32 though.

i used an old drive i had in one of the Blacx devices to copy my stuff when i installed a larger drive into the PS3.

FAT32 means your new Iomega drive isn't going to work. You don't want to format a huge new external HD in FAT32. Just get a 1-2GB USB thumb drive.

He can format it in FAT32 to begin with and the reformat it to NTFS or whatever he wants after he's done with the PS3 stuff.

I formatted my 500gb Seagate 2.5" USB HDD as FAT32 - no problems. :)

I bought it to use as a large storage drive to hold things for both my laptop and PS3, and was at the time, completely unaware of the PS3's refusal to cooperate with NTFS. I was upset, but then realized the more recent FAT32 formatting could easily handle large drives.

Only issue with FAT32 formatting, is while it can handle large drives, it will not allow files larger than 4GB.

So the issue with formatting a 1TB HDD, is while you can, you will have to remain aware of the file size limit.
