The non-funny part is that I missed warranty by 20 days and will have to payup 150$ for the new power supply.....

If you're feeling brave, Ebay has PSU's for $50-60. I'd probably go that route if I was in your situation.

If the PSU's were new I would try it. The problem is that if you break the lables inside by openning your PS3, Sony won't fix it for you even if it is out of warranty.

All slot-loading drives have this problem, AFAIK. Of all things, I wouldn't blame Sony for this one.

Except for, you know, using a SLOT-LOADING DRIVE IN THE PS3.

I happen to prefer the slot-load.

(But I've never had a disc stuck in there ;))

Heck, I wish they made PC drives in slot load (with a paperclip accessible emergency eject button of course). I still have an old Pioneer slot load in my old retro gaming box.

UPS is scheduled to deliver the PS3 today, hopefully they will for I will actually be here to sign for it. Sony usually include a report with the returned product that explains what was changed / fixed?

PS3 came late yesterday (had to sign for it). There were no details about what exactly was wrong with it on the invoice. It was NOT my original PS3, the serial number was different, but the model number was the same. It looked new (not a scratch on it, still had the protective plastic attached to it), but I doubt it is. Manufactured March 2007. Since the model code is the same, I assume that it is also a 60gb with full hardware backwards compatibility. Firmware was outdated, but it works! They sent me the disk back with the unit in the box (in a protective sleeve beneath the unit).

I have hooked it up and updated the firmware, but I have not had time to seriously use it. Project in my software engineering class combined with preparations for Hurricane Gustav.

You better check that shit ASAP; drive size and BC. The first time I sent in my PS3, they forgot to put the hard drive back into the unit! Fucking retards.

I wonder how many units they get with blueray pornos stuck inside. The stories they must have...

Wow a PS3 failure. HOpefully it doesn't turn out to be like the 360. My PS3 is going strong but I use it once a month lol

Thanks for the tip, it has a 60gb HDD in it (check via the system tools in the xbar).

Is it the same hard drive you had in your original PS3 or is it a new one? Did you end up losing your data?

New one, all saved games / data = gone. My previous PS3 must have been messed up big time. Now comes the problem of negotiating the Visa's extended warranty with the new serial number (I only have a few more months left on the official Sony warranty).

All you have to do is log back into the store to download games, tv shows etc again. (for free of course) I think you can also make backups of your data..
