PS3...corrupt file system?

Hey guys, last night I was clearing up some game data and got to Resistance 3 and my system just froze, there was no hard drive activity. I rebooted the system and that folder came up as Corrupted Data, I hit delete and it took over an hour.

Obviously I think my hard drive is going bad. I booted my system to the safe mode and did the restored file system option and it says the file system is corrupted and will be restored. Everything rebooted fine. So I went back into safe mode and did the same option and it still says the same message that my file system is corrupt. After that I did a backup onto an external hard drive.

Did any of you guys ever see or deal with this? Should I format and do a restore of the backup or will the backup transfer the corrupt files over? Any suggestions/opinions highly appreciated! Thanks!

I had this issue back when i first got my PS3, did a full format and that cleared out the problem, haven't had a problem ever since so you should definitively try it.

Good luck.

I had a similar problem but it was with a corrupted download.

I ended up going out buying an new 500gig 2.5" HDD. The more cache the better/faster it will be.

My system is still under warranty, cause usually i'd just buy another drive. I'll try to full format and restore using my backup.

Last night before I went to sleep, i set a full format (7 hours). This morning I rebooted it, went into safe mode again, and it still says file system is corrupt. I brought my ps3 hard drive into work today, I did a SMART test (passed) and now i'm 1x wiping it. Seems like the drive is good. Do you think there is something wrong with my PS3 or maybe I need to reflash the firmware?

I seriously doubt there's anything wrong with the PS3 or the firmware. If reformatting it doesn't fix the problem, 99.99% you just have a bad drive. Very easy to replace.
