PS3 Controller on Windows 7 64bit - No Go?

I can't seem to get my PS3 controller (instead of buying a Logitec one) to work on my PC. Searched here for any threads, couldn't find anything.

Found a few websites that say it's not possible on 64bit OS's, but the articles were a few years old.

Anyone have any guidance on this? I'd really like to use it as I love the PS3 controller, or do I have to buy a Logitech one?

I tried, gave up. It worked in the tool and was reading the input, but couldn't get dirt2 to recognize it.

I always thought the 360 controller to be superior to the PS3. Any reason you prefer the latter?

The feel and mainly the D-pad. Don't get me wrong I like the Xbox controller too just prefer the PS3.

Windows 7 detects it, says it's working fine, but no buttons or directional inputs register. If I try to calibrate it, nothing happens.

Are you just tryting to connect it via USB (this won't work), or using X360 emulation mode through Motionjoy?
Get the $15 bluetooth dongle and use it wirelessly with Motionjoy.
It takes a bit to figure out how to get it working, be we can step you through that.
(I use one on both of my Win7 x64 machines)

I bought a cheap dongle and motion joy software (USB worked fine as well), works great in Devil May Cry 4.

It works fine but it requires a step to be done prior to each boot to work properly. Because the driver available is unsigned, Win64 will not allow it to work, however this can be overridden. If you hit F8 and check your boot options, you will see one that allows you too allow unsigned drivers. This change is temporary so anytime you want to use the PS3 drivers you will have to use this boot option at boot. It's a PITA but it's the only way to do it ATM unless Sony releases some drivers that can get signed by MS. Good luck.

PS3 has a better d-pad, which is only really good for fighting games, which should only really be played on a console.

Me too

also use it via Bluetooth with no problems. Just make sure you turn the controller off before you plug it in to charge it.

This. Cept for some reason I have to be online in order to use the analog triggers for my racing games. Still havent figured how to use analog in offline mode.

Thread necro I know, but I only just now got around to trying to get this to work on my PC, still can't get it on Bluetooth, but Montionjoy worked.

Yeah why did you rescind? I've used motionjoy for my ps3 controller for use with TDU2. Worked perfectly.
