Did Sony give your hand permission to hurt!? Now go enjoy your photo gallery and think about what you've done.

Seriously though, the controller is terrible. My thumbs ache after long sessions with the PS3. It's a relic, a holdover from Sony's glory days, poorly adapted for today's gaming. The position of the thumbs and the horrible "triggers" are a nightmare.

360 controller is much better.

It's amazing how I played countless hours of PSOne and PS2 games (of course I was much younger then...), but now with the advent of the far superior 360 controller, I can't play PS3 for more than an hour. The DS3 is too small, the triggers are horribly placed, the analog sticks are bad and poorly placed, and the entire shape of the gamepad isn't intuitive to an adult's hands.

If it wasn't for the crappy D-pad, I'd say the 360 controller was the best of all time. The Dual Shock hasn't changed in any significant way since it was introduced in 1997 (1998 here in the States). Good or lazy design by Sony to keep it the same? You decide!

:moon:

The most comfortable controller ever is the Gamecube controller. Button wierdness though will always be a topic but it's the most comfortable controller ever.

You're not alone, OP. Dualshock controllers cause my hands to cramp up after about 45 minutes of playing. Don't have that problem with the Xbox/360 controllers, even the original aircraft carrier Xbox controller.

If this were 1997, I can understand your statement, but in this day and age, you are complaining about Nintendo's choice of controllers!?!?!

It's too small for me, and yes, it hurts my hands more than the 360 or dreamcast controllers. When I played my PS2 religiously, I used 3rd party controllers that had larger, and slightly angled hand-holds and it was night-and-day.

Side comment: It is not as bad as the GB SP though, my hands cramped after about 20 minutes on that tiny thing...

The PS3 controller is small, I fell like I am pinching it instead of holding it. But I don't have any problem with it, other than hating the marshmallow triggers.

The 360 controller is close to perfect for me ergonomically. Its serious failing is, the D-pad is complete crap, and I have no desire to try the mod for it.

360 controller+PS3 D-pad= perfect controller for me.

So yeah, I've decided that the buttons are the worst thing about ds3.

I can live with my hands hurting but how the fuck do you guys deal with the l1/l2 and r1/r2 buttons? I mean any game I play where you have to continuously use the shoulder and triggers, I end up pressing either the wrong button or both buttons!

Also, does anyone else have a serious problem not pressing he l3 and r3 when trying to move the analog sticks quickly? This is a huge problem for me in all shooters. For example, in cod4, if I'm switching targets and pull the right stick, the button is so sensitive that I end up melee attacking a dude half way across the map. In battlefield bad company, the same scenario makes me keep crouching and uncrouching when trying to hit a stationary target.

I never have this problem on the 360, the thumbsticks have much more resistance to them making u really want to push them. Ds3 thumbsticks feel like mush and in order to avoid looking like a fool, I have to slow down the movements of my thumbs.

Anyone else?

I use the PS3 controller without any problems whatsoever.

Only part of the PS3 that 'hurts' my hands is the force feedback. I swear my hands felt weird after crashing into my 500th car, and blowing off my 1000th round after 5 straight hours.

I'm not sure I play my PS3 frequently enough to cause any kind of harm to my hand .. but I've never had a problem with it. I find the controller to be fairly comfortable for my use.
