I bought a ps3 wireless controller (Sixaxis) and tried to charge it out of the package on my computer using a usb cable i use for my western digital mybook. the 4 red lights flashed for 20 mins, then stopped. I tried calibrating the controller using the game controller program in control panel. Nothing happens. So I sent it back and got a new controller. Same thing. Controller blinked for 20 mins, and then stopped. Still won't work. Am I using the right cable (it fits)? Can you charge it on a computer?

If the lights are blinking, it means its charging.
I've never tried to actually use mine on the PC though. I assume you are hitting the middle PS button to turn it on?

I charge my PS3 controller using my computer and it works perfectly fine. What do you mean it doesn't work, you tried to play PC games withe PS3 controller? All USB cables are the same, and only differs from the sockets.

I actually charge mine on the PC while I'm playing the PS3. Its easier to plug it into the notebook thats sitting next to me rather than be tied down to the PS3 itself.

Yes I'm used two different mini usb 5-pin to charge it. Does the controller come charged? I have also tried charging it one two different computers. The lights (4) blinked for 10-20 mins. then stopped. Now when I plug it in, they blink for about 30 secs and stop. Both controllers were sealed and brand new. To test it I used the game controllers config in control panel. It registers as a ps3 controller, but when you move the analog stick, or press buttons, nothing happens. What could be the problem? I guess I can give it to me friend who has a ps3 and try it on his system. I just want to use it for pc games and sometimes racing on ps3. Yes, I found the ps3 drivers online, still doesn't work.

Hit the PS button (while the PS3 is on) and it should bring up a screen with the controller charge at the bottom. I'd guess the thing is fully charged.

And, yes they come mostly charged, at least mine did...

He's trying to use it on a PC, not PS3

The point I was trying to make is that he should use the PS3 to check the charge on the controller, as most likely it is fully charged.
