PS3 Backwards compatibility question

The PS3 80gig there is software emulation.

Is there any thing stopping people from ripping the emulation software from 80gig version and putting it on the 40gig.

Also what if you upgrade the hard-drive yourself.

The 20 and 60 gig PS3 have both the PS2's CPU and GPU (Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer).

The 80 gig PS3 has the PS2's GPU but software emulates the CPU. (I may have mixed them up, but it has 1 and emulates the other)

The 40 gig PS3 has neither the PS2's CPU or GPU.

So it wouldn't work. Sony has to develop software emulation for the Emotion Engine before we'll see backwards compatibility on the 40 gig PS3. I think it'll happen eventually, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
