PS3 Backup Utility

i used it when i upgraded my hard drive. backed up onto a thumb drive. then replaced harddrive and restored from thumb drive. i dont see why you would want to use it as a regular conventional backup... I guess later on when you have much more things on your harddrive it would be good to backup just incase your drive dies.

Sounds good. Would you happen to know if any of those USB external HDs can work with PS3 ?

yes they work, i believe they have to be formatted to fat32 though.

Ok cool. Are they pre-formatted out of the box or would the PS3 do it after hook-up?

they might come preformatted to fat32, i dont think the ps3 will do it for you, if anything you can plug it into a computer first, format it, then plug it into your ps3. it should get detected automatically by your ps3 at that point.

Most USB/Firewire, etc external drives are preformatted Fat32, so they should work out of the box.
