PS3 and Wii Pre-Orders Now

Now, imagine that you are a small mom and pop video game store at a fairly big city. You advertise this in the local paper, and you get 100 pre-orders in one day. Instantly, you have $5000. You invest this money for the time being and earn some small interest. Then, on launch day you refund everyone their $50.

Wouldn't this be an "evil" marketing scheme? But I have to say that it would not be a bad publicity if mom and pop can play it right. On the other hand, I'm really not sure if this is legal.

Anyway, for some evil scheme, try looking at this Ebay auction:

Notice the receipt picture. The lady's name is on it and also the store's phone number. Now, if someone was really mean, can't they just call up and cancel her order? Someone should warn her. Tsk.

She paid a deposit, which means she gave them cash, check or CC. They would want her to come back in for a refund.

$800+ is not inexpensive.

I heard Toy's R' Us is accepting preorders this sunday, for Wii and PS3... I may camp if true.

Actually, the Toys R' US pre-order was confirmed by a couple of TRU employees and also a scan of the upcoming ads. It's going to be interesting watching a lot of campers dressed up in their Halloween outfits. I'm saying this because most of the costume parties I know of are held on the 28th.

they are, sunday, as well as the Wii ones.

also, there are now new rules to doing preorders on ebay.
