I have just recently decided to buy one of the next generation gaming systems. I guess you can say that in the past I felt burnt by all the "new and improved" systems and wanted to hold off before I rushed off and bought a Playstation 2. Since going from Genesis to Sega CD to Sega 32x, and then nothing I have been more cautious, hoping not to repeat that mistake again. What does everyone thing about the next generation gaming consoles and their recommendation on which one I should bring home? Thanks for your input.

Well if your looking to buy soon, the ps2 is your best bet.
The library has matured and great games keep rolling out,and will do so up until xmas.
There is also a good selction of used games available that are cheaper now as well+ more accesories, and the most 3rd party software support.
GC also looks promising but i am staying away til mario sunshine comes out.
xbox:ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...........

I won't be getting one right away, probably after the first price drop, but I'm going with a Nintendo Game Cube. Sure, people say the console looks like its geared more towards a "kiddie" atmosphere, but one thing's for certain, Nintendo's provided games that have been absolute FUN to play, regardless of the kid atmosphere. Especially in multiplayer situations, this is where Nintendo has ruled in the past with 4 player games like Super Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Mario Party, etc. I'm going with Nintendo this generation.

If buying now get a PS2. The PS2 took a long time to get some good games out. Xbox and Gamecube have a reasonable number of releases but 90% of them will be crap. PS2 has a large library. There is no point doing what PS2 owners had to do which was wait a year to get any large number of good gamesout and doing that on an xbox or gamecube. PS2 has the library now, so buy that.

I like the GC if you already have a DVD player or you don't care about the DVD feature. If you want DVD, check out the PS2. I played the XBox yesterday at EB and it isn't that great. Nothing better than PS2.

The Xbox PR campaign is a total disaster. They have horrible kiosks in the stores and the Taco Bell commercials are doing more harm than good. I will never understand how Microsoft with all their cash can fumble this bad with such an important product.

Damn right. I played that odyssey game for about 3 minutes and found myself asleep on the floor. It was bad bad bad, plus the guys in EB were wondering why MS gave such crappy tvs with the demo unit.

Furthermore the controller is Undeniably inferior to the dualshock 2 for PS2. It just is. The dualshock is a gamer's game pad ;) But then again most people expect Xbox to do the worst of all 3 anyway.

I agree, I have my doubts about the Xbox, Its getting closer to the release date and while the hardware of the system is getting a lot of hype, I am yet to see one single game that turns my head. I think I agree with skoorb, the games are out there so I should just quite wasting time and pick up a ps2.... Thanks guys

Hmmm..... the search button works for me....

Anyways, I have a PS2 and I'm pretty happy with it. Took awhile to get some kick ass games but they are flowing out now. Devil May Cry, GT3, Ico, Metal Gear 2, Final Fantasy X...

It's gonna take a good 6 months for each of the newbies to get some fantastic games. If you wanna wait that long, go ahead.

I'm sticking with my PS2 since all I play is sports games anyway. Sony has EA Sports AND Sega Sports making titles for them, so I am extremely happy with my purchase.

So true. Everytime I get into a conversation with an Xbox-head they rattle off about dual T&L units and memory bandwidth. I have yet to see an impressive game. I was really looking forward to DOA3 because it looked like it would kick ass from the screenshots. When I saw it in person it just sucked. Most of the Xbox-heads use the "it's not final hardware" argument. My answers is always, "why are they showing crappy demos so close to launch anyway?"

I was going to buy one but I guess I will just dump the cash into a Ti-500, being it does not look like I will get my Dell 8500 anytime soon :(

PS2 no doubt about it. Picked one up for $280 brand new
It plays old PSX games, and serves as a stand-alone DVD player away from the computer, which justifies the $299 price tag.
I like to think of it as a $199 cheap DVD player and a $99 next-gen console. ;)

and with the amazon deal, I picked up 5 of the latest and best titles for ~$125
you can't beat that... :D

Too bad those Amazon deals aren't coming through!

I'm just like Goldfish; I'm into sports games, and the XBox also has EA and Sega making games, as well as Microsoft's own games, which I plan on getting NFL Fever 2002. I do have to admit that Microsoft's kiosks are pieces of crap. Those tv's are horrible, and make those games look pretty crappy. I remember that the PS2's had LCD with their displays in some stores last year. Now that was a good move on Sonys part.

Seriously, the PS2 does now have some a$$ kicking titles, as well as some of the old school favorites such as Madden and SSX.
