PS2 through PC?

I know there's another topic telling you how to set up your PS2 through your PC, but this one's slightly different. I came to university with my PC and my PS2, and not my TV. Because I live in the UK, if I brought my TV with me, I'd have to spend £120 for a TV licence. This means I can't have a TV tuner card either, which seems to be the normal method of connecting your PS2 to your PC.

Is there another way of doing it? Thanks in advance for your help...

Afraid so...apparently they can be detected too. What video cards have VIVO? I have a Radeon 9600 XT, though I suspect it's knackered anyway, I'm getting a hardware test done on my PC.

P.S.: If that's above your budget you can get something like this for around £54 (I think) without having to buy a new video card.
 
You can get VGA boxes which hook the PS2 directly to the monitor. This will be much better quality than a TV Tuner will be.

They aren't detected - they just hold a list of addresses of the households without a TV licence. Then they send threatening letters untill you pay - If you don't pay they have the right to enter your residence (without a warrent) and seize equipment and issue with a £1,000 fine. Or a two year sentance if you don't pay then fine.

how can they detect a tv tuner if u dont plug it into the cable outlet? You could just use it as a vivo source if u want a cheaper alternative to a new vid card.
 
You could get THIS instead. Its a TV tuner that connects directly to the monitor. You dont need to use it as a tuner but just connect the ps2 directly to it and it connects directly to the monitor. Looks great also.

yeah, if you have no cable to hookup, who the hell cares if you have a tuner card.
they can't tell you what hardware you can and can't have, esp, if it;s not being used.

You have to do it this way anyhow if you have a card with an MPEG2 encoder - those TV tuning cards introduce a noticable amount of lag in the image because of the time needed to process it.

Nah, I use an old AverTV card and there is absolutely no lag whatsoever. I went with the viewsonic box because the image looks better and I dont havbe to turn on my PC to play my console games.

Sorry, you're right. I neglected to mention I was talking about cards with MPEG2 encoders, which is where the lag is introduced.😱
