PS2 swap disk?

So i got a 7th gen PS2 and I bought a japanese game from ebay and i wanted to know how i can play this? i heard about a Swap Magic Disk or something but i wasn't sure how it works? all i need is to buy the disk and then swap it before i play the game? or do i need to install some kind've hardware on my ps2 and then use the swap disk? i want to try and keep the warranty.

A PS2 is one of the hardest things to mod. There are so many wires you have to solder....more so than an Xbox. Try looking on craigslist to see if anyone is willing to do it in your area.

what??? are you serious? is it hard to do the mod? mod chips are like $50 and i have no idea how to do that stuff to install it.

Does 7th generation ps2 = the new slim PStwo?

no i think thats like 12 or something, mine is still old one

ok so is the flip top mod thing hard to do? what exactly is it? and does it come with the swap disk?

The flip top mod involves finding 6-8 screws (depends on PS2 version) on the bottom of the PS2. You unscrew them, remove the existing plastic top, replace it with your new plastic top, and replace the 6-8 screws.

It is by far about the easiest mod you can do. Most of the places that sell a swap magic disk will also sell a flip top, but it is possible to order both of them separately.

Any kind of mod will void your warranty 🙂 A flip top is the way to go if you don't want to send your ps2 off to be modded or attempt to mod it yourself. A modchip will work much better though and is typically more reliable, but maybe I'm biased since I mod ps2s 🙂

Yes, you would void the warranty. Is your's even still under warranty? How old is it?

I did the "Flip Top" mod on my PS2, it was fairly easy. It's pretty easy to do, you just need to be sure to keep track of where each screw came from, there are many of varying sizes.

Check out this site, http://www.ps2cover.com/ I'm pretty sure this is where I got my cover.

This should be exactly what you need.

EDIT - Not sure about Jap games with Swap Magic, I was thinking about copied games when I wrote this stuff. But the Cover is exactly what you need.

hey somebody told me another solution instead of the flip top is to just get the slide card, is that easier than the flip top? any advantages or disadvantages?

I think, the slide card requires that you break off your PS2 DVD drive faceplate. (The little piece that come out when the drive ejects) It's annoying to do because you have to put in the boot disk, use the slide card to manually pull out the drive tray and put in a new disc.

Hey, do the Swap Magic discs work with the new, slim, "PSTwo" models, since they have a built-in flip-top lid?

That was something I've been wondering too. Sounds too good to be true though.

Well, when you open the top on the slim PS2's they reset. You still have to mod the top. Yes though, the software still works.
